from the wait staff. The one restaurant made a point to let the kids know their respectful behavior was appreciated. I will say that those complements have paid off for years. To this day, our daughter always starts her orders "May I please have the ...." -- my son, still polite, but not as much as my daughter.

Daughter went on a study abroad trip last year and said she was really disgusted by some of the manners/actions of the few students who went with her (15 kids all together). One girl actually blew her nose at the dinner table using her napkin, then put the napkin on the table. I'm sure that girl made an impression on their foreign hosts (ewww!).
