Christie's 9/11 Tribute Almost Included The Song 'Bridge Over Trouble Water'

CATHERINE THOMPSON – MAY 15, 2014, 11:40 AM EDT

By chance, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was spared from being the butt of a great cosmic joke Thursday at the dedication ceremony for the Sept. 11 museum.

Broadway star Idina Menzel was originally slated to follow Christie's remarks with her rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," according to the Associated Press. But Menzel was replaced in the program because she was sick and unable to perform, according to a spokesman for the museum.

Instead, fellow Broadway singer LaChanze performed "Amazing Grace." The switch-up had nothing to do with Christie or with song choice, the spokesman told the AP.

The bridge scandal that still plagues Christie's administration has been lampooned everywhere from late-night TV to the New Yorker.
