Why India's Elections Matter

In just a few hours or even a few minutes, India will have its day of electoral reckoning; the results of a month’s worth of speeches, roadshows and endless queues of voters. The question of who will be the next PM of India and who will represent citizens in the Lok Sabha will soon be answered.

Why should Americans care about India’s elections?

Because India is our mirror; the one that says “object in mirror is smaller than it appears.” Many of India’s economic trends, nagging social problems, populist philosophies and human failings of its people are reflected back to us.

It may first appear to be small and insignificant, but upon closer examination, it’s much larger and relational.
