“I don’t care about your sympathy. I don’t give a s--- that you feel sorry for me”

We hear it after every mass shooting: politicians on both sides of the aisle intoning their deepest condolences to the victims and their families. We hear a lot about thoughts and prayers and sympathies. We especially hear it from politicians who kowtow to the NRA and the gun lobby, usually framed in the language of unnamed inexplicable evil that mere humans cannot control.

But the father of one of the victims of the Isla Vista shootings put it best when he said:

“I don’t care about your sympathy. I don’t give a s--- that you feel sorry for me,” Richard Martinez said during an extensive interview, his face flushed as tears rolled down. “Get to work and do something. I’ll tell the president the same thing if he calls me. Getting a call from a politician doesn’t impress me.”

Damn straight.

it's not like it was "their country" to start with. And I include my own Puritan ancestor in this comment. The colonizing of this country was a European land grab. There were already indigenous folks living on the land. They have some nerve thinking anything is "theirs".

I swear it's like dealing with a 2-yr old whenever you have to talk to a republican - if they see something they think they own it.

about the prevalence of guns out in the open, because they want their country back and the open references to assassinating our POTUS. If any breathed a thought like that with bushco cabalists, they are still in Gitmo. If from the day of that first SOU address, that idiot that shouted out "liar" had been heavily criticized and irredeemably censured, we might have started out on the right footing in regard to this POTUS. But noooooooo! Ryan and bonehead promising to thwart EVERY initiative by Obama and bonehead screaming,, "one term President". Maybe, just maybe, the RW pundits, too numerous to name, but limppig and beckerhead and handjob come to mind, wouldn't have felt like they had legislators backing their racism. Those same RW pundits might not have had the ammunition to stir up their sheeple, bundy ranch, operation spring base. The reality of the last six years opened my eyes to how much scum lives under the rocks in this swamp of amerikkkan democracy and culture. I knew it was always here, but out of sight......not too worried. I'm glad these clowns came out and showed the truth that's always been the red- white and-blue.

inability to see or believe the reality of the last six years with Barack Obama as POTUS. No one ever shouted out "liar" to any modern 'other' color POTUS in my historical time frame. Maybe you haven't heard such in your circle of friends, but I just read where some 'police chief' got fired or had to resign in new hampshire or vermont, one of those live fee or die states because he was referring to my POTUS as such, and he is definitely not in my circle of friends and I do resent and am offended by your implication. No I won't link. But to make it easier for you, just google the occurances on whatever search engine or what ever. I can't believe that you could deny ever seeing or hearing about my POTUS being referred to as such. If that is true, sheltered much. Detached much. Maybe so.

I don't know if they are trolls from elsewhere just trying to push a button. Doesn't matter, it's here and it will never go away...no doubt about it. But you know, some people just can't help it. I got that he was referring to extreme racism in amerikkkan culture toward our POTUS, which there is, and the instance(s) where racism could be inferred from some responses here. 46. That story has been debunked by the Secret Service.
Thu May 29, 2014, 10:13 AM
May 2014
In August 2009, an author who’s written about the Secret Service estimated that the number of threats against Obama had increased by 400 percent in comparison with his White House predecessor, George W. Bush.

But that December, then-Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan told a congressional committee that the number of threats against Obama had not -- again, had not -- increased by 400 percent.

"The threats right now ... is the same level as it has been for the previous two presidents at this point in their administrations," Sullivan said.

He told the committee he’d discuss specifics in private. The Secret Service doesn’t like to discuss threats against a president because it doesn’t want copycats to get any ideas.

Sullivan told U.S. News during an interview in March 2010 that the threat level had not increased since Obama became president. Sullivan retired last month.
