(9,126 posts)But PLEASE don't feed your dogs ice cream or the cone (due to grains) or hamburgers with the bun or any other crap. Dogs can't handle sugar very well at all and diabetes among dogs is skyrocketing. Those are two super sweet dogs and it would be a shame to for them to suffer joint pain, arthritis, obesity, and all the other diseases of civilization because their owner feeds them McDonalds!

(9,126 posts)I argued so much with my mother who fed her gorgeous dog crap all the time. The poor thing was always very sick. It was heartbreaking. I just hate to see animals suffer and feeding them crap that should not be in their diet is really abuse. Those dogs were so sweet, their owner should take better care of them.

(1,815 posts)They look as healthy as they can be and a little ice-cream once in a while will not hurt them....People always want every rule to conform to their dogma... some time DOG MA is a bitch..

(9,126 posts)You can wag your finger at me all you want, but you wouldn't do the same if someone was feeding their baby a McDonald's cheeseburger and laughing. Why, because it is not appropriate to their needs and a baby can't digest food like that. Same for pets. Fat, arthritic pets with diabetes is not normal (as with people, and often unhealthy people feed their pets their same unhealthy diet).
Here is a dog before and after a species appropriate diet
I'm not trying to convince you, but perhaps other people will learn or be curious. There is tons of bad info out there put out by corporate pet foods. My mother had spent over $20k on visits to the vet because the dog had severe allergies and asthma. She had a horrible cough that kept her up all night and she couldn't walk more than a block without sounding like she was going to die. The vets gave her steroids and all number of medications because they didn't know what was wrong. I tried and tried, but my mother would still feed her "treats" which included sweets, chips, and hamburgers. When my mother died, I switched the dog to a raw, species appropriate diet and within ONE MONTH, this dog who had been terribly sick her entire life was better. Many pets with skin problems or a bad smell, erratic behavior, depression, bad teeth, organ problems, overweight &c., they all improve with a change of diet. Because pets and most especially cats cannot digest things like sugar or grains it leads to serious chronic illness. Just a little is too much.
I work with animal rescue groups, so I care very much for pets and see many sad stories. But I also see good owners who love their pets very much and who just need some better information. So, even though it may kill some lolz, I'm gonna speak up so people don't think that's ok.

(1,815 posts)What I'm saying is, do those dogs look like your example? No they do not and if you paid attention to them you could see they are not young dogs, number one and number two, did you pay any attention to the amounts of ice-cream they actually got. I believe in this case your castigating this owner is unnecessary, the other poster was right judgmental downer.

I rec funny animals videos all the time. But there's no reason to applaud stupid shit. Sorry to ruin your lolz.

(153,111 posts)the wealthy woman fed her Pekinese crap, which led to the poor thing being fat and sick, and Dr. Herriot would keep the dog for a couple weeks doing nothing but feeding her good food and getting her lots of exercise......the lady would pick up the dog and and exclaim how the transformation was a "miracle of modern science"

(9,126 posts)Didn't mean to be a downer, but I surely don't want to encourage people to feed their dogs harmful stuff. I wouldn't feed a cow a chicken nugget because that's not what they are meant to eat. People treat their dogs as garbage disposals and it's sad.
