This is from his sister Amy to me, just now.His wife had called me this morning to tell me that the news was bad. Chris has had many infections over the years, and has been on many antibiotics as a result. Well, now, those drugs are no longer working. The infection he currently has is resistant to all the antibiotics. It will probably be the end of him.
The family was getting ready to meet with the palliative care team to decide on what to do. They said they would call me later, which they did.
But now the news was better. Several of Chris' high school and middle school friends had come by, and there had been much laughter, talking and whatnot in his hospital room. They were all so noisy that the staff told them to keep it down. Through all this, Chris was animated, happy, smiling and looking better than he had in months.
The family asked him what he wanted to do about his situation, and he indicated that he wanted to think about it, and tell them tomorrow.
So the situation is in flux.
I am going to fly out there tomorrow because I want to see him, and say goodbye if that is necessary.
Your good thoughts are much appreciated!

(2,150 posts)Viruses are killed by the wild oregano oil.
MRSA is killed by it too --- in English hospitals it's put into humidifiers and and small amounts are aerolsolized in the hospital rooms. This has been done many times and testing shows the MRSA is GONE. It'd imporant to get a high quality brand without additives. I prefer the type that comes from Israel. It only takes a very, very tiny amount so stop a sore throat or an infected tooth for example. Put one drop on a Q-tip and gently put it in the back of your throat, or on the gum that houses the infected tooth.
The type I order is from Israel called Floracopiea, OREGANO, SATAR (ORIGANUM SYRIACA) - 15 ML. WARNING!!: DO NOT PUT IN EARS, DO NOT PUT ON LIPS, DO NOT PUT ON VAGINA, PENIS, TESTICALS OR ANAL AREA. SKIN is o.k. Back of throat is o.k. Gums are o.k. Yes it burns a little but it's well worth it. For infections inside the body..... put 1 to 2 drop on tongue and wash down with water.
I am not a doctor. I'm sure I have to cover myself legally by saying "check with your doctor before you do anything" but personally I think doctors don't know enough about natural remedies that have more range of potency and are capable of curing, instead of "managing" illness.

(111,222 posts)Still, I think the best thing now is that he's happy and laughing with his friends. I've seen very sick people start to turn around with just that. Or not. I wasn't a stuffy nurse, I just closed the door and let them be loud.
There are a few drugs that will knock vancomycin resistant infection down until a patient's immune system mops it up but they're hard to get and have quite a few nasty side effects, especially in really sick patients with prolonged recovery periods. They are classified as "reserve antibiotics" and drug stores don't stock them for good reason.
It will be up to him to risk things like C. dificile and overwhelming yeast infection to beat this thing. In the meantime, the more you can get him to laugh, the better, although the nurses will get pissy because it makes the ventilator alarm constantly.
If he's had enough, there are worse ways to go than among friends and laughing with them.

(19,558 posts)I know I don't "know" Chris. Not like you do. Reading him here in the past and following his progress via you, Peggy, has made me feel as if I do, though. After all he's been through this hardly seems fair. To be up against an antibiotic resistant bacteria after all his hard work and fighting...it's just wrong.
Give him love from DU. Let him know we really do care and that I believe he can kick that damn bacteria in the butt, if any one can!
I'm not about to give up on him yet.

(90,616 posts)I remember something my Mom used to say about Granny, as she got frailer: when she had visits with people she enjoyed, she would come to life; but when her visitors left she would be exhausted.
I imagine the enjoyable visitors filled my Granny with life-force; but her own life-force was already so depleted that when they left, theirs just drained out of her again. I would never want to deny someone so much pleasure at the end of their life...
Don't know if this makes any sense to you or anyone else; it's just an intuition of mine.
Love to you and Chris and his family. Thanks for letting us know how things are.
