A poll came out yesterday that says, "Hey, guess what, limbless Iraq war vets? We think the whole fuckin' thing was a waste of time now. But enjoy those fancy artificial legs. And VA wait times." You can read the poll results, which say that 71% of Americans say the war wasn't "worth it," and think, smugly that they're goddamn right, just like you were since 2003. And, in fact, the Rude Pundit will say that now:
"You're goddamn right it wasn't worth it. Where were you motherfuckers back in 2003?"
However, that's a bit unfair. After a brief flirtation with approving of the worthless war, Democrats haven't polled in the affirmative above 40% since 2004 when asked if the nation should have stuck its bombing ass into Iraq. Indeed, the numbers themselves never go above the mid-40s since 2003 and they plunge to the 30s and never recover since 2005, conveniently for the Bush presidency. In fact, war approval overall was always middling at best.
But let's lay the blame for the Iraq "war" squarely where it belongs: on the Republicans. Sure, some Democratic lawmakers voted to give Bush the ability to go to war and some liberal hawks in the military jacked it to fake WMD reports. Democratic voters, though, are another animal altogether. They were consistent with their opposition, with weasel-eyed independents not far behind. It was Republicans who enjoyed having their blood orgies under the spouting arteries of dying Americans and Iraqis. Their approval stayed consistently in the 70s, sometimes bumping uglies with the 80 percent mark, just balling away, madly, like the smell of gunpowder and gore was an aphrodisiac that makes you fuck harder and longer, the Spanish fly of the deranged cult of eternal war. The only reason support for the war lingered as high as the 40-49% range for so long was because an overwhelming number of Republicans supported staying in and fighting the useless fight.
You own the Iraq war, GOP. "Everyone" didn't support it. You supported it in huge numbers. You can blame a few cowardly Democratic Senators, but this isn't on us outside the beltway. Our hands, while filthy for many reasons, are pretty clean on this. Yours, on the other hand, are permanently dyed by the blood of the dead and wounded.
Even now, an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that a plurality of Republicans think the Iraq "war" was worth the lives and money: 46% to 44%. You got that? According to this poll, nearly half of Republicans still think like America's most petulant pixie, John McCain. And the only thing you can say to those people is simple.
Go fuck yourselves. However you wanna do it. Use a dildo, use a cucumber, use the fucking bed post, use your shotgun, but go fuck yourselves. That shit goes double for the vast numbers of Republicans who supported the war for years and now think it was a bad idea. Seriously, use a fuckin' ramrod on your assholes.
While we're at it, let's tell all the Mississippians who voted for Chris McDaniel to go fuck themselves with a magnolia tree branch until they shit all over the Confederate flag. Nearly 185,000 voters, including most of the southeastern part of the state, chose the racist, conspiracy-mongering, Confederacy-loving teabagger because he was to right of the far right fucknut who was already in the Senate.
Mississippi has given us as clear a demonstration as you could want that the Tea Party is just a bunch of white supremacists crossed with Christian extremists, a bunch of inbred fucking lunatics who are going to blow up the Republican Party.
In other words, Republicans have just begun to fuck themselves.

I'm rather hoping they select the shotgun option myself ... given the number of self inflicted wounds ammosexuals have experienced lately, this could result in a spectacular and rapid reduction in the rethuglican population.

(6,675 posts)afghanistan or Iraq, I said it was a damn, dumb, stupid idea but no one politician listens to people like me. I grew up in the military and lived through the Vietnam war. This was just a rerun of that stupidity. I grew up seeing wounded war vets from Korea and Vietnam. Politicians have very short memories. Watch, they will do it again within 20 years.

Also, I don't believe there is any limit to how bat shit crazy they can get and still win. As long as they have the complete radio monopoly and Fox, they have an insurmountable advantage.

(26,314 posts)I got a fuck for the way too many across the board that in that like 90% when it was nitty gritty time because this was one of the dumbest things to do ever and no excuses either from the mealy mouth brigade, this went against like 70 years of bipartisan foreign policy.
I don't believe the elders were happy at all because as wicked as they are they do see moves ahead and know such an action introduces too many variables to allow even them to get and maintain a hold on the whole middle east.
Iraq was under a long duration air cap and embargo, whatever it's intents it was in an almost uniquely special position of having precious little ability to pose a threat to the US.
What do you think the real extent of military and CIA surveillance capabilities even a decade or so back? Shieeeeet, this might be the most hemmed in a country has ever been and they were sold as a threat?
And all the putrid gnashing of teeth about all of his own people Saddam had murdered (certainly true, ignoring the fucked up nation building gone wrong stuff that makes own dicey) because Charles Schultz and Rumsfeld went during and after some of the worst and tickled his taint and went just shy of calling him a saint.
The putrid part, I hope you understand is the same crew used a lot of what they totally sold as a reason to motivate for a war when it suited them and killed up all kinds of poor people and set off untold destruction that we might be getting started on because we have made one epic mess and bombing some more folks to prop up Bush's jacked up puppet that won't puppet isn't not going to fix or help shit.
If we are not very fucking careful we are likely to now set off a whole sect and escalate and inflame the whole mess regionally not just immediately but sewing seeds of discord to reap later as well.
Hell, here we are again poking with no known objectives and almost everyone will at least go along and suck it up, like it or not.

(5,178 posts)All we have to do is add a little cash, outdated military equipment and corporate advisers. Let it come to a slow boil and then dinner is served.
Watch that economy hum. See the busy workers building the death machines used on those unfortunate enough to be born in our democracy zones. Marvel at the small investor profiting off each payload. Applaud at the brave, young Americans delivering the freedom load.
We may suck at rebuilding but you gotta admit we sure are good at destabilizing.

(2,204 posts)I have read the Rude Pundit for years now. Every time I do, I have to smile when I'm done because he has a way of capturing the way real Democrats should think. His use of the English language is really the way we all want to talk when discussing what the Republican Wingnuts do. They are bad for the country and we all know it. They have only their own pockets they want to take care of. Corruption is rampant within this party (and some of the Dems also), but the Republicans constantly show who they care about by constantly wanting tax cuts for business and the wealthy and forgetting that there is a group of people that REALLY need help but they will block any bill now that will help them. Our corporate tax of 35% is a sham. The actual tax for each business is well below that but the jostling of the higher figure gives the wingnuts points with their "real" constituents, the corporations and the wealthy. Great writing by the Rude Pundit.

Thank gawd for the written word, and writers like the Rude Pundit for taking advantage of the skills he has. Most Republicans, and other ignorant rightwing blowhards, have what I consider the worst trait a human can have and that is an overwhelming defensiveness to every other opinion. Probably because they know deep down that they are so wrong on so many things if they honestly thought about them and are in desperate fear someone will see through their fragile shell all painted up with stars n stripes.
If you used the Spoken word on these yahoos you'd never get past "If you look at the facts...." before being drowned out by bug-eyed insults and spittle. Thus we progressives, all know we have to walk on rice paper around them, being ever so careful not to accidentally say something that might be construed as lording over them with such things as "facts" and "truth"....showing off our liberal elitism. It is so so painful trying to debate any issue with a dye in the wool social and economic conservative in person that I always leave feeling I have just wasted those moments I will never get back.
Its refreshing to be able to read someone say exactly what I'd like to say....and also know that at least a few wingnuts will read his column..not that it will do any good, but at least they will see just how much actual contempt they are regarded with outside their bagger bubble.
