John Boehners Obama Lawsuit Is a Complete Disaster as Democrats Raise $1 Million

Instead of firing up Republicans, Speaker of the House John Boehners lawsuit against President Obama has raised more than $1 million for House Democrats.
Here is the tweet from the DCCC making the official announcement:

Boehners lawsuit against Obama is the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats. Wednesday was the biggest fundraising day of the year for the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee). After Boehner had announced that he was going to sue President Obama, House Democrats raised a 2014 record $584,000 in 24 hours. The money has continued to fly in from mostly small Democratic donors all over the country. Passing the one million dollar mark in a few days is even more impressive by the fact that the majority of Democratic donors are giving less than $200.
The idea of suing President Obama have been floating around in conservative media for years, so Speaker of the House John Boehner likely assumed that he had found his golden ticket to increase Republican turnout in the mid-term election. Boehner did find a golden ticket, but instead of getting the keys to Mr. Wonkas factory, he is being rolled into the squeezing room Violet Beauregarde style.
It is easy to foresee a situation where Boehners lawsuit gets thrown out of court due to lack of standing, which will mean that all the Speaker will have accomplished is raising millions of dollars to help the Democratic Party replace him as Speaker with Nancy Pelosi. Republicans are so trapped in their own bubble that they never imagined that Democrats would react to the Boehner lawsuit by getting energized, mobilized, and opening their wallets.
Democrats are thrilled that Speaker Boehner decided to sue the president, because he has reminded Democrats and Independents what the Republican Party is really about. House Republicans have made themselves into the issue that may decide the 2014 election.
Republicans have awoken the giant voting bloc that has crushed them in three of the last four elections. If a small fraction of these voters go to the polls on Election Day, the Republican decision to sue the President Of The United States could banish them to minority party status for another decade.

(19,240 posts)Monica. However, I am pretty sure that the Gang of Five on the SCOTUS will give him a special exemption from the law the way they gave Bush a special exemption from the law in Bush v. Gore, because of who he is (it being illegal to base a ruling in a case upon the identity of the parties in a case).
I would loooooove to see this one on CNN this fall. "The House sues Obama for doing his job." Oh, I really, really want to see this one. I mean, I desperately want to see this one. There is no sex, so it might not get as much coverage as Monica, but I am sure the 24 hour news stations would give it at least an hour a day.

(81,110 posts)Granted, they'll call on the kochs and out-raise us yet again, but this at least sends a message. What I'm HOPING is that it doesn't just motivate Dems to donate - but to get off their asses and VOTE!!!! If ALL OF US who could - DID, we'd turn it all blue - Capitol Hill, and every statehouse and state legislature up for grabs. If we don't, then frankly, we deserve what our apathy and/or laziness will get.

(5,946 posts)truthfully, they do make me sick, When I read crap like law suits and investigations, not that I am against legitimate investigations, just not money wasting posturing for their chance to appear on the news cycle. It just makes my blood pressure rise, which means I have to take pills,
I guess asking them if they have no shame does not good because they have no shame.

(18,402 posts)Victory would be preventing the Republicans from taking this obstructionist step, which will mean almost NOTHING will happen in Congress: no laws to help people who need help; no hike in the minimum wage; no immigration reform legislation; no freaking nothing.
A million dollars is peanuts in the larger political scheme of things. And it's a million dollars that will go into staff salaries or advertising, neither of which really helps move the country forward.
I'm not happy that we use this kind of shit, that both sides use this kind of shit, to raise money. It's just turned into a giant game of using the crazy thing, or making up some crazy thing, so you can send hair-on-fire emails to people to ... raise money. I've had it with my inbox being filled with 15-20 of these every day. There was even one the other day that said "Don't delete this email without reading!!" I deleted it, without reading.

(296,848 posts)and the baggers. I don't think it will end well for them. In fact it will highlight even more the repub hypocrisy and obstruction and how many EOs previous presidents have executed.

An unintended consequence, mayhap? Even tho $1 million is a relative drop in the bucket in today's obscenely expensive campaigns, it is a delicious drop.
