Boycotting Hobby Lobby (Update x2)
by edwardsslFollow
Not that I've ever done much shopping at Hobby Lobby, anyway. Maybe once or twice a year.
But I have occasionally made a stop if I was looking for, say, both upholstery and craft item for the same project. Less driving around, less wasted gas and time, blah, blah.
But no more.
I don't really give a shit how my boycott affects hobby lobby (though a good hurtin' on them would be most satisfying). Seems hobby lobby doesn't care as much about profits (as evidenced by having their stores closed on busy Sunday shopping days) as much as they care imposing their conservative fundie ideology on women who are at their mercy.
Well, this is one woman who's had it with them and their ilk. Time to take a stand.
What I care more about is sending a message to those companies that might even consider following hobby lobby's example - you take this course of action, you discriminate against women, you play these games, then be warned and prepared, because.you.will.pay.
Who's with me?
UPDATE 1
It's been suggested that I post of list of the other companies that were also challenging ACA's mandatory contraception mandate in court

(11,001 posts)They need to understand the difference between being religious and spiritual. Spiritual people embrace and love one another. Religious people live with a condemnation of Hell for all who do not believe as they do. Oh, well.

(8,084 posts)They are hell bent on forcing this ancient cult beliefs on public school children. If I want my children to know about a certain religion I will teach them at home. I don't want that creationist crap taught to my children as if it is anything more than a mythology like Thor or Zeus.

(369 posts)After the Pearl Harbor attack, Admiral Tojo said that he was afraid that all that was done was awaken a sleeping giant. I hope and pray that the women of America are a sleeping giant that has been awoken by this ruling. Every women in the US should rise up and get out the vote this November. We must stop the Dominionist movement before it destroys our country.

(22,000 posts)I'm going to the US for a visit and I would gladly waste a 1/2 hr of my time doing it. Even better I'll just go in knocking over displays and walk out. Fuck'em!
I think a boycott in general won't work worth a shit.
A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)The owners are the ones who brought the case and it would not bother them at all.

(1,941 posts)Who do you think pays the workers' salaries? it would, therefore, obviously this would cut into the owners' profits. And I don't think restocking is a very egregious task - may even create a need for MORE jobs.
A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)Have you ever worked retail? The bosses are not going to call in extra help for restocking. I agree restocking is not a very egregious task, but they will be stuck restocking a bunch of extra crap in addition to all their normal duties. If the store looks bad, they will get written up or yelled at even though it's not their fault.
Hurt them by not shopping there. On social media, treat them like the pariahs they are. The owners will feel a drop in sales.
