Buses With Migrant Families Rerouted Amid Protest

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Homeland Security buses carrying migrant children and families were rerouted Tuesday to a facility in San Diego after American flag-waving protesters blocked the group from reaching a suburban processing center.

The standoff in Murrieta came after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to complain to elected officials about the plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border.

After the buses were blocked, federal authorities rerouted the vehicles to a freeway and then to a customs and border facility in San Diego within view of the Mexico border.

Juan Silva, 27, a welder in Chula Vista, said he thought officials were transporting drug traffickers. Then he heard the buses were carrying migrant families.

"I don't think people in that town should be against little kids," he said about the protesters in Murrieta. "We're not talking about rapists. We're talking about human beings. How would they feel if it was their kids?"

not in the way that Silva means it. Compassion isn't something sociopaths "feel".

This is a HUGE topic on talk radio right now. The afternoon guy in Richmond VA was all over this to the point that a small college about an hour from here that was going to be used to temp housing 300 CHILDREN has been reversed. A huge angry turnout at a meeting - in a depressed area that could really use some money pumped into it.

It is an artificial city and nothing lime Chula Vista. People in CV aren't afraid of brown skin or people who speak Spanish. Unlike Sarah Palin, I can see Mexico from my house. These dolts miss the point. These kids were intercepted. I feel for them for the hell they went through to get this far.

That is what I want to say when I hear the local radio idiot go off on this. I haven't called in yet.

This has been going on for 2 1/2 years but spiked recently. Talk radio has all kinds of disinforming wild conspiracy about this - these "protestors" ( protesting children?!??) are literally just puppets who can't get over their blind rage to see what they have been manipulated to do.

I'd buy up some land someplace, build some good, modest housing, and have the kids placed there and provide them with meal service, education, healthcare services, etc.

But that's just me...I'm not a Koch.

... numbers. "Law-breakers", they call them. People who come to this country "to take our jobs," jobs that the bigots won't work themselves. Oh yeah, and it doesn't matter if they came from Mexico or any other God-forsaken central American country. They have brown skin. If it was buses of immigrants from, say, Canada, there would be no problem.

What we need to do is protest the bigots, wherever they appear. We need to criminalize bigotry. It's so absurd that anyone can be an immigration bigot. We are all immigrant descendants!

Immigration and Customs Enforcement will decide who can be released while awaiting deportation proceedings."

Released where? Surely they're not releasing unaccompanied children? What's to stop an adult from leaving town on the next bus? And how long does a deportation hearing usually take?

The situation with gangs was so bad that parents had to let them leave OR it was time to get them to the US. the one example on Colbert was a mother who hadn't seen her kids in 4 years who was blackmailed $2,500 for her sons life. She decided she had to get them here.

Deportations take a while but not as long as it used to. Obama has deported a LOT of people in his time in office.

NPR interviewed one 15 year old in custody with his 17 year old brother from Guatemala who's parents had come up and was living in Florida on a visa.
They had left their children in the care of grandma when they made the trip a couple years ago. The boys wanted leave and be with their parents, so they went ahead and came up on their own.
Other children have legal relatives; aunts, uncles, grandparents, who can either sponsor them and get them legal status or at least take care of them until they are properly deported back to their parent's homes in Central America, saving taxpayers a shitload of money.
US immigration laws do not allow parents on visas to "just bring their children up to the US" after they are here in a legal status, the minor children either have to come up with the parents, or the parents have to pay buchu bucks in legal fees to bring each child up.
The article indicated that there were infants and toddlers included on the bus, which would suggest at least one or two mothers had been caught with a very young child. Whether the mothers were also children themselves is another consideration most people don't make; there are girls as young as 13 or 14 even in the US that have delivered babies. Those girls are still children themselves.

As it is, Murietta is full of the Mega-churchy types that protest anything that would seem to be compassionate or merciful to anyone outside their clique. If you suggest that the "red letter" passages applied to everyone instead of just the chosen few, they'd just look at you blankly.
To assholes like that, When Jesus said "Suffer the Children" he meant "except for those other people's brats; dump those worthless teat-suckers back into the holes of slums and hovels they came from and slam the lid shut hard on top of it to keep any more of those junior thug or 'ho wanna-be's away from our perfect Heavenly ycommunities."
