Is this offensive?
Maya Peterson resigned from her position at Lawrenceville School three weeks after photos of her wearing a Yale sweatshirt, L.L. Bean duck boots and holding a hockey stick were posted to Instagram with hashtags like #romney2016, #confederate and #peakedinhighschool. School administrators warned that she faced serious disciplinary action if she didnt resign.
It's not the first time that Peterson has sparked anger among classmates with her views, however.
When Barack Obama was re-elected President in 2012, she wrote on Facebook: "As a black and Latino, gay woman in the United States of America, today is a momentous day."
And, in an addendum that infuriated fellow students who dubbed her racist, she added: "I'm sorry to all the rich white men who have failed to elect a president that endorses their greed."

(78,249 posts)1. Oh, this is at Lawrenceville!
Republican Stepdad went to Lawrenceville. (But if she were mocking him, she'd have to have a Columbia sweatshirt. And an epee instead of the hockey stick. )

If it was Princeton I would have blinked.

Unless there's more to this story, looks bad for the school. Racist?

Hilarious.
And the sadz of the white prep school future republicans who cried that their civil rights were in jeopardy over the photo were an added bonus.

(910 posts)5. I'm glad she's speaking her mind but
according to the article, it's not changing their minds:
One former student said Peterson's overall attitude "violated the spirit of the Lawrenceville community."
The pupil, named only as David, said: "When I think of Maya Peterson, I don't think of someone who is an avid proponent of progress or of inclusiveness. She had a hateful spirit."

I didn't see that in her remarks.
