How did we lose control of the agenda so badly?

(42,302 posts)And Obama isn't to get credit for anything, ever.
We see it on this board often enough as well.
It seems that as far as the country is concerned WRT President Obama, the good is the enemy of the perfect. Every accomplishment is derided as not being good enough or sidelined because he didn't do X or he appointed Y.
Or, we must be turning our full focus to Z because that is what is important, not the jobs created.
So, even here on DU, threads about the unemployment rate dropping and jobs being created are always met with "but he didn't do this," or "lots of people are still out of work so this means nothing." I'm one of those unemployed and being a women of a certain age don't hold out much hope of getting something, especially in my semi-rural area.
I still celebrate these numbers today because it means that my two sons and their friends' chances are improving.

(13,591 posts)It's all spin anymore. The media's primary purpose is to please their advertisers. If they can get people to "feel optimistic," then they will be tricked into taking on more debt to buy whatever the advertisers are selling.
What started out as a job deficit of 8 million years ago (much larger now,) and with at least 150,000 new jobs needed every month just to keep up with growing population, a few months of a net job growth of 100,000 (i.e., amount over the break-even number of 150K) isn't anything to crow about, especially since most of those jobs are McJobs that pay poverty wages.
