Just got through reading a disturbing piece in Time Magazine about the above topic.
I know that cyber-bullying is a real thing, but I had know idea as to to
depth and cruelty that children are subject to through these internet sites.
Now, realizing that the article was written from a negative perspective,
my question is this.
Is social media a good ? bad ? depends? thing for young people (let's say 8-16)
to engage in?

(13,460 posts)my only perspective is how I think it would have affected a bullied child like I was in school. I think I very well could have committed suicide over it. I believe though that my close friends and I would probably have created aliases and only friended each other, had secret email accounts because we became well-educated in watching our backs. But you know your phone number would get out and harassing texts would ensue.
I can't imagine how awful it would be to not even have the refuge of home. To have to constantly change your cell number, email, try to hide 24/7 instead of just at school. It would be simply terrorism by the bullies.
I don't think it's worth it for kids who are bullied. I think that social media can only increase the attacks.
