The "HIGH WATER" signs are out, the streets are flooded and rain bands are somewhat regular. Not much wind inland so I have been told. Hopefully this will be a rain event more than wind. We got lucky with location of land fall this time. We are safe and cozy. The dogs are a little annoyed. I'm guessing it's the barometric pressure? Hope my pals up north fare as well as we seem to be, at least for now.
Love, Peace and Shelter.

(60,014 posts)the rain is welcomed here (I've been watering my garden twice a day during this recent dry/hot spell).
Here's hoping everyone on the coast stays safe - it won't be much fun on Ocracoke (our favorite place in the world) and Hatteras Island tonight....

(11,911 posts)I'm in DE and we're expecting some thunderstorms and heavy rain out of Arthur. I just went out and got some Rescue Remedy Pet for our dog. She didn't fare well last night since thunder was rumbling for hours. I'm hoping the RRP helps with the storms and tomorrow night's fireworks, if we get to have them at all.
I've been keeping an eye on OBX. I love the place. Have some friends who have houses down there and we have a 2wk vacation schedule down there before school starts. We usually camp near the S-curves in Mirlo Beach. I've never been to a beach below Ocracoke, so I've been doing some research. You know, just in case Hwy 12 gets washed out...
For anyone who's interested, here are the OBX webcams: http://www.obxcams.com/
Looks like it's a beautiful day down there so far.

(3,128 posts)I grew up and lived most of my life in Va Beach. We had a summer cottage in Buxton. I can remember after one hurricane, going down to the Outer Banks to check on the cottage and the Atlantic during the storm had completely covered the island, enabling the Atlantic to flow across to Currituck Sound.
Stay safe and let us know that you are OK after Arthus moves north.

(22,631 posts)She said that they just had a "frog strangler" go though. That's what Granny used to call a rain storm so hard and heavy that frogs were drowned. They are almost exactly in the middle of Pender county. Water has them blocked in from three directions. And we now have a category 2.

(1,587 posts)And anyone in the path of the storm, really.
I'm north and east of Raleigh, not far from the Virginia line, and we got some rain this morning. There might be some more later on, but I don't think it's likely at this point.

(5,815 posts)Usually I don't worry too much about a Cat 1, but it now looks like Arthur might jog slightly to the west which could bring some sound side flooding including downtown Manteo.

Not exactly sure what we will see tomorrow, yet it's heading this way.

(37,457 posts)We were maybe 100 yards from the Atlantic Ocean. Stuff flying everywhere in the yard, torrential downpours, water seeping in under the sliding glass doors. It was scary but a little fun, to me as a child anyway. I also rode out Hurricane Charlie in 2004, which passed maybe 10 miles from my residence. Luckily nothing happened to me.
Hurricanes and tropical storms are nothing to sneeze at, for sure. Stay safe !
