(32,886 posts)We can do it in NYC and Boston and DC and Chicago, but other than that, it wont work.
Look at this rail coverage of Budapest: http://www.bkk.hu/apps/docs/terkep/vasut_agglo.pdf
Include the buses and trolleys and you get this: http://www.bkk.hu/apps/docs/terkep/buda.pdf
No excuse for driving under the influence when you have that system. Leave the car at home if you are going to drink at all.
Outside of a few cities in the US, you dont have that here and cant do it.

(16,199 posts)Or just even social drinking at a friends. We need to drive to get to places. Laws like this are just authoritarian drippings from the neo-temperance movement.

(501 posts)It's basically practical prohibition that will fail like all other zero tolerance BS.
Not that it would matter for long with the self driving cars and whatnot.

My kids and husband razz me enough about how "embarrassing" I am after one drink. I believe them. If my judgement is already impaired enough that I'm "embarrassing" after one drink, then I surely know to stay off the road.
Take a cab! Then it doesn't matter and you can have all the fun you want.

(36,437 posts)I don't drive after even a single glass of wine. A single beer. Nothing. If I'm driving, I don't drink at all. And I like to drink. The wife and I take turns if we're going to a party. if we're going out for a nice dinner, we rarely drive, as we both like a cocktail before and some win e with dinner.
Now, I live in a city where public transportation and cabs are plentiful, so I get all that. But it seems like a pretty easy practice to institute.
