Yahoo, the new Fox

I have a Yahoo mail account, otherwise I would not see their homepage. I can't help but notice lately that they have veered way right. They constantly feature stories from minor right wing sites I never heard of. That these stories are as ridiculous as those coming from Fox bothers me. I never see similar links to left leaning sites.

Occasionally, I have seen others here at DU make similar observations as I have. Whats up with that? Is it really a good business model to alienate half your audience? I know why Fox does it, because Rupert tells them. Who are the yahoos running Yahoo?

1. Yahoo has been right wing for a while. Maybe they are getting moreso.

I'm sure the new CEO is trying to do whatever she can to make Yahoo relevant again. Being the Fox news of the internet may be the way she decided to go.

3. I've noticed a change also. Yahoo has been my home page for years now since I have a yahoo email

account and the homepage allows me easy access to the news, my email accounts, and a quick look at what's happening with the stock market. Previously I never noticed that the linked stories trended one way or the other. I always click on the top news stories and there are always comments on stories I'm interested in. Recently, I have noticed that the responses are remarkably hostile right wing fringe and the tone is pretty nasty. This is a more recent development. Even when the story is apolitical like the monthly jobs report the other day or something like the DOW hits new high (although in the current climate I guess everything is political) the first 5 comments out of the box are hate filled and Obama bashing totally ignoring the article and just taking the opportunity to bash Obama.

But I have also notice how right-wing they stories have gotten. Just this morning there were at last two that were from the Daily Caller website that looked as bad or worse than Fox News.

I think they haven't kept innovative enough in terms of email and having other integrated services like Google does. It could be that I'm using an older version on Yahoo. As far as I'm concerned if the company fell in the ocean tomorrow I would simple yell out "next?"

7. "New"? I think not.

I've had a Yahoo account for years. It used to be my primary account but then I switched to gmail. I still use it for non-personal email and have found myself irritated ceaselessly by its creepy rightwing slant. A long time ago it became obvious to me that reading the comments on virtually *any* story was the sort of mistake that makes me want to pull my hair out by its roots.

I was mainly referring to their news stories, but you're right, those comments are ugly. I wonder if they delete most of the pro Obama posts. Some get through, but not before the deluge of hate.
