It turned out to be an abscessed tooth.

Whoa! For all you young ones, it could happen!

I’m Sick of Republicans Lying About the Healthcare System that Saved My Life
July 5, 2014 By Chad R. MacDonald

By the time I was released I had learned to stand and walk again. There were therapists for that. Across the board, everyone was encouraging and confident I could come back, and that helped give me the confidence to do so. It wasn’t the most pleasant summer of my life, but I sure learned a lot.

It turned out to be an abscessed tooth. I had chipped a corner off of my right rear bottom molar that day trying to catch a softball. The pain of it had blended into the general soreness of my entire face. When it became infected, I had no idea. By the time I got help, it was so very close to being too late. That’s how I lost the summer of 2007.

What happened to me could have happened to anyone. Yeah, it was a freak accident and odd circumstances, but I was healthy as a horse before that. Never broken a bone, never had to stay in a hospital before.

Everyone needs healthcare eventually. It is not “if” it is “when.” The main difference between Canada and the USA is the healthcare systems of both countries. The Canadian system is far superior to America’s. It’s not even close. Don’t believe me? Ask Sarah Palin.

There are critics who will dismiss my experiences out of hand because they’re “anecdotal evidence.” Whatever. Doesn’t make them any less true. And, funnily enough, these are usually the same folks who go on and on about how terrible the Canadian healthcare system is. They’re lying. I’m not.

It’s up to you to choose who to believe.

4. My friend had a similar experience with a chipped bone in his toe....

.... that ended in an infection on his spine.

He had just lost his job. No insurance. Turns out he was diabetic and didn't know it. He dropped something on his foot and figured he broke his toe but didn't have insurance so he didn't go to the ER.

Felt some pain/discomfort in his neck one night. Next morning he wakes up and can't move. Any time he moved he went in to convulsions. Spent two days on the floor pissing himself and hallucinating from dehydration until he was able to yell out the window for a neighbor.

Over a month in the hospital. Now walks with a cane/walker and has to cath himself for the rest of his life.

Couple hundred thousand in medical bills paid for by you and me and written off under his eventual bankruptcy.

45 years old college educated. Now can't work and contribute.

Has been denied disability.

Denied medicaid - until Obamacare kicked in. Thank you Obama!

Hopefully now he can get more than the two physical therapy sessions the hospital gave him just to get him out. Maybe it will help him become the productive member of society he wants to be.

At the time all this happened, that mealy mouthed jag-off Illinois Senator Mark Kirk was recovering from his stroke and saying "gee, maybe we should increase the PT we pay for because I wouldn't be walking today without my taxpayer paid PT sessions." Gee ya think? Dickhead. They can't comprehend someone else's problem until it happens to THEM. I guess it's better than nothing.

was informing right wingers on other (non-political) message boards just how awesome Canadian healthcare was. I loved setting them straight. I wish I could've seen their jaws drop when they would slowly realize they had been sold a pack of lies about our system. I converted quite a few people back in the day. That was eons ago though, in the early days of the internets

I'll have to think about it...I try to keep my FB non-political since I'm currently beginning my job search (just finished school). Sounds like fun though.
