I could understand why the concept would work, but I had no idea he could get such a great sound.

That reminds me of the Landfillharmonic Orchestra:

You may as well just go and zucchini on it as far as I'm concerned!

With that kind of attitude, I don't see mushroom for improvement.

And here is a video of him playing a clarinet made out of a watering can:

He makes instruments out of all sorts of "found" items.

I've gotten DUzys for things I considered lesser, unworthy efforts.

The ones I like are things like #11 here, which got no reaction. Makes no difference, though, as when I post something funny, it's because it's something that strikes me funny. It may or may not appeal to others, but I still get my kick out of seeing and posting it. When others appreciate it, it's even better in multiple ways, including bringing us together in that shared experience.

From the Gerard Hoffnung Concert in 1956 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoffnung_Music_Festival

I seem to remember a Concerto for vacuum cleaner in there somewhere too, but it's not listed on the page.

The set can be purchased on-line. From the Introduction by Mr T.E Bean to the final chords, it's a riot.

Added:
Don't forget to look at the fantastic cartoons that went with the music and characterize the musicians perfectly. Look under google images returned from the Hoffnung concert search.

40. Can I bring my Swinette?

A Swinette is a musical instrument which is made by stretching a possum's whisker across the posterior of a live pig.

The Swinette is played by plucking the whisker with one’s teeth. The virtuoso creates tonal variations by squeezing the pig at appropriate places in the abdominal region.
