Democrats elected President from outside the White House:
1932 - FDR, 50 years old
1960 - JFK, 43
1976 - Carter, 50
1992 - Clinton, 46
2008 - Obama, 47
2016 options: Clinton, 69; Biden, 74; Cuomo, 59 (the youth candidate?)
Not to seem ageist here. By my calculations, I'm too old to run myself. But the winning formula seems to be getting the younger voters with us. No one I see running gins up my juices. (Caveat: my juices are notoriously fickle--I was for Biden in '08 and Clark in '04).
But seriously, aren't you kind of hungry for somebody fresh (doesn't really have to be young, just new) to come out of nowhere and turn this nomination on its ear?

He's an old guy with new ideas.

(45,055 posts)Not a lot of Democrats will do that.
This would be the first time he's run as a Democrat, but I'll give him a listen.

Good times.
Do you think you are too old to run?

(53,997 posts)Of course, it's not the running that really matters to anyone but her and her peeps. It's the next four to eight years of governing that would really matter to all of us.
