Representative Austin Badon, Jr. Calls For National Guard On Streets 'We Are At War In New Orleans'
"We are at war and when you're at war, you have to bring in soldiers"
Is there any reason you can't increase your police forces?

(24,721 posts)He's running for city council, was endorsed by the current mayor, Mitch Landrieu (Mary's brother).
It's mentioned in this video that Landrieu isn't supportive of the NG presence, & I've been looking for answers as to why Badon would appeal directly to Jindal rather than Landrieu. Seems odd.
Not unlike any other city, New Orleans has always had a problem with crime. The National Guard's presence is an extreme remedy; cities much larger than New Orleans aren't asking for their state National Guards.
I still have unpleasant memories from Katrina with the armed NG's presence throughout south LA. I was afraid then that Louisiana was being used as a case study for Martial Law. Now this Democratic representative wants to go to this extreme rather than meeting with Mayor Landrieu for other remedies (i.e., borrowing extra law enforcement from surrounding parishes). So I wonder, has this guy been bought by ALEC or some other rightwing think tank to further its study of Martial Law?
Weird.

Incompetent, corrupt police forces don't equal "war".
