Hillary Clinton Says Political Dynasties Are No Problem in US

Berlin: Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has defended the prominent role of political dynasties in American politics, saying the United States is "not a monarchy."

Asked by German magazine Der Spiegel whether a possible 2016 presidential run by her or former Florida governor Jeb Bush, brother of ex-president George W. Bush, would turn US democracy into a monarchy, she replied that the system was "open to everyone."

"We had two Roosevelts. We had two Adams. It may be that certain families just have a sense of commitment or even a predisposition to want to be in politics," she said in the interview, a transcript of which was posted online on Tuesday.

Clinton, whose husband Bill sat in the White House from 1993 to 2001, recalled her failed bid in 2008 to become the Democratic candidate for US president.

I'll giggle with bemusement at anyone who votes against someone due to family tree about as much as I'll giggle at anyone who votes because of family tree.

Voting as such is a very easy way to illustrate being a half-wit.

The Clinton dynasty has hurt the average person. The Clintons admit they don't believe in the New Deal and their reforms have undermined it. Glass Steagall and Welfare Reform were both reforms that undermined the New Deal. Nafta harmed the working class and the Unions.

There were several Presidential terms between TR and FDR, and we never had more than one Kennedy as President.

1) Literal definition:

dy·nas·ty noun \ˈdī-nə-stē also -ˌnas-tē, especially British ˈdi-nə-stē\

: a family of rulers who rule over a country for a long period of time; also : the period of time when a particular dynasty is in power

: a family, team, etc., that is very powerful or successful for a long period of time

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dynasty

16 years (at most) is NOT a particularly "long period of time";

2) Political Context:

The citizenry typically don't get to VOTE in the ruler in dynasties ... Or, at best, get to pick from a field of one.

3) Wait ...

Yeah and we had two Bushes. How did that work out?

It may be that certain families just have a sense of commitment or even a predisposition to want to be in politics

No. Certain families accumulate power and engage in nepotism. She can't really say that, though, can she? After all, she's doing the same thing. You can't expect me to believe that a former president's son.... or wife is the most qualified person. We learned that with chimpy.
