This has probably been posted here at DU before (and I'm sorry if it's a repeat), but with the latest shootings, it seems like a good time to post it.NanceGreggs

(27,813 posts)... hard, miserable day. And your post has warmed my heart more than I can say.
No, I am not really back. For a long time, I have been a 'non-participating observer" - but given my penchant for opening my big mouth, welcome or not, I have lapsed into participating of late more often than appropriate - and I really should know better.
I miss the old days - when, despite our inside-the-family spats, we Democrats were united against the GOP and its agenda. We had a common enemy then - and now the 'enemy' is those within our own ranks who aren't "pure" enough to suit some, who aren't 100% on-board with the perpetually pissed-off.
I miss the days when a joke was taken as a joke - and wasn't alerted on by the holier-than-thou on the basis that it might potentially offend someone, somewhere in the universe.
I miss the days when the likes of Palin and Santorum were the objects of scorn, instead of fellow Democrats. I miss the days when statements from McCain and McConnell were the punchline to every joke, instead of statements by Reid and Pelosi.
I miss the days when calling someone like Ann Coulter a bitch was applauded, instead of being alerted on by over-zealous self-appointed "feminists" - who, back in the day, were more concerned with issues like equal-pay-for-equal-work than they were with who shaved their armpits.
I miss the days when DU represented those willing to stand united against the "other side", rather than those insistent that "both sides are the same".
I miss the old days - and yes, despite all posts to the contrary, those days once really existed. My place was in those days, and those days are long gone.
I no longer belong here - but I truly appreciate being remembered as someone who once did.

(9,704 posts)I didn't know about Chicago. But I did read about this family incident in North Carolina. I'll just change the word "shooting" in the OP to "shootings".
