(SF) Giants consider ban on ‘culturally inappropriate’ attire

The Giants are contemplating a new kind of dress code at AT&T Park, one that could keep certain types of politically incorrect gear out of the stadium.

The proposal stems from a brouhaha that arose after a fan, who appeared to be Caucasian, donned a headdress at Native American Heritage Night. The fan was approached by two Native Americans who asked for the headdress and then refused to give it back, according to a report from USA Today.

The two fans were escorted from their seats and detained by security, but they were not arrested.

...in the future “any fan wearing culturally insensitive attire, using obscene or abusive language, engaging in antisocial conduct offensive to those around them or displaying any other offensive behavior,” would be ejected from AT&T Park, according to Staci Slaughter, a spokeswoman for the team.

Total First World Problems for those ignoramuses who insist on appropriating other cultures for the night out at the ball game. Lol. And GO GIANTS!

Sure, they've hit some unbelievably hard times lately and it's been painful for them and for me. But the things they can control, like this call for cultural sensitivity, they always get those right. The classiest team in the Big Leagues. Love my Giants!!!!

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

No comments added by alerter

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jul 10, 2014, 02:04 AM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What a pant load of absolute shit. Shit be running down your leg. Hide it.

Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I voted to leave it just to see the comments by the alerter because I wanted to find out exactly what they thought was offensive. I'd never heard of this idea, and I wanted to see if it was a known culturally-offensive thing to say that I wasn't aware of, etc. And I know a lot of hippies that wear dreadlocks, so I was curious and all. So with no comments from the alerter, I must vote to leave it. Please, when you alert, tell us why you are alerting. I likely would have changed to "hide" had there been at least some kind of comment, to err on the sake of caution on the sensitive subject of race.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: the technical term for this is shit-stirring
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Trolling.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Yeah, Shit stirrer but not a Hide. imo.

but many Native Americans are of mixed race, and many look white. This is so well known that a story I read to my students about a Native American boy living on a reservation has kids in the illustrations that look white. Yes, there are "white" looking kids living on reservations. I don't know about this particular situation, but the "white" person could have been Native American.

The San Jose Sharks recently announced introducing a cheerleading squad "Ice Girls" after choking a 3-game lead in the 1st round of the playoffs. Seriously.

to view the up and coming players. My hubby was worried that we would be subjected to "ice girls", but we were not. Lol. We are big fans, and the loyal fans, even the males, are not for this.
