If "they" take over the Senate and keep the House,

first order of business will be to impeach and convict President Obama. Next on the agenda will be to impeach and convict Joe Biden as soon as he is sworn in. After that I believe that Speaker of the House, in this case Boner, becomes the defacto President, until the next Presidential election, which they will have carte blanche to rig for their candidate.

What they want is a total governmental coup, and they WILL pull it off if Rethugs take the Senate (I'm assuming they keep the gerrymandered House). Then they can start enacting their long planned theocracy, run by the 1%, who will ensure the rest of us are permanent serfs. Only thing that can stop them is Democratic voters turning out in record numbers next November.

Really scary shit is possibly right on the American horizon.

Oh, and I really hope my paranoia is way off base.

Who will cave at the slightest inkling of GOP pressure?

All it will take is a few David Brooks and Tom Friedman editorials and some monologues by Morning Joe and they'll easily peel off enough spineless conservadems.

Today's Democrats are a by and large a craven bunch of spineless buffoons more concerned with what the DC media cocktail party circuit thinks of them than they are with what is best for the American people, but even they wouldn't go that far.

At least I think.

Or I should say....I hope.

Under your supposition my guess is they won't even impeach Obama. Politicians have a real aversion to impeachment because what goes around comes around. They got their asses burnt the last time they tried. That's why we say that republicans' asses and faces look the same: really red.

Sure, they bucked the trend and lost a few Congressional seats in the 1998 midterms, but 2 years later they were in the White House and in firm control of the government.

They need 67 votes to convict in the Senate. I doubt they'd seriously pursue it. The house might, but at least some of them have to remember how much it bit them on the ass with Clinton.

They'll make a lot of noise, but not much action.

  1. They have no chance to get anywhere near 67 Senate seats.
  2. It would cost them the House in 2016.
  3. The arithmetic already favors Democrats for the Senate in 2016.
  4. They have a hard road to climb to compete as-is in 2016 and they'd be handing the Presidency to the Democrats for possibly a generation or more.

It's not only not-credible. It's insanely stupid of them to ponder it...it's the end of the GOP until the day the moderate wing of the Democratic party defects to the GOP to combat the resulting left-pull resulting from that. You have to understand that not only does an Obama impeachment hurt them...it's likely to radicalize the Democrats to a sufficient extent to propel ideological liberals over "electable" moderates in Democratic primaries.

It's "Hello President Sanders, how do you like your two-chamber supermajority?" time if they impeach.

What scares the ever-loving-shit out of me is what a Repug majority in the Senate coupled with a Repug President could do with the SCOTUS. That, IMO, is the battle we need to be concerned about.

And if they were to take the Senate (which I don't see happening, I do though see them losing seats in the house but keeping control), they needs a 2/3 vote to convict which in no way they will ever get.

I posted this last night: Only if the president and VP are removed simultaneously (this is why the VP can't travel in the same conveyance as the president) will the Speaker become President.

If Obama is removed Biden will choose someone they will REALLY fucking hate to be his new VP. And it doesn't have to be an elected official. If I was him, I would REALLY fucking piss them off: I would pick either Rachel Maddow, the president of Planned Parenthood, or the last president of ACORN. Then I would cut a deal with that person: I would resign from the office of the President (moving that person into the White House) and the new President would choose me to be their VP. It is totally legal and there's no "the right of the Republican Party to get its way all the time shall not be infringed" line in the Constitution.

4. Insane amount of money and powers for "Border Patrol"
5. Sanctions against Iran.
6. Sanctions against Russia.
7. Sanctions against Palestine.
8. More funding for Military.
9. Revoke all progress with Cuba.
10. Minor tax reduction for people.
11. Massive tax reduction for corporations (and call it a jobs program).
12. Banish the EPA.
13. Make talk of global warming a crime.
14. etc.

Obama will veto all of it and they call him an obstructionist.

We've just seen the beginning of the backlash from the HL ruling, women are going to come out in droves to vote against the GOP this November.
I predict we easily keep the senate and we win back the house in a shocking rebuke of the right wing supremes.
