there are a lot of crazy conspiracy theories going around among the wingnuts.
one of them is them claiming the people coming in at the borders will have diseases including ebola.
right now i'm more worried about the way some of these racist teabag types will react than what the immigrants will do.

There's a disease around there, all right, and it's not the kids who are bringing it.

Active Cases Of Tuberculosis Found In Central American Immigrants
July 8, 2014 6:16 PM
EL PASO (CBS Houston) Two Central American immigrants who were brought to a Border Patrol facility in El Paso have been found to have active tuberculosis, reports KVIA-TV.
Were concerned for our agents and theyre absolutely concerned about taking something back to their families or contracting something from these people that we have to process, said Stu Harris with the National Border Patrol Council Local 1929.
Tuberculosis usually affects the lungs, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but it can also affect the brain, kidney and spine. A person with active TB is considered infectious; if they cough or sneeze and another person inhales the droplets, they can also become affected. Not everyone infected with the TB bacterial becomes sick.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a statement saying it takes the safety of its officers very seriously. U.S. Border Patrol agents have taken extraordinary measures to care for these children while in custody and to maintain security in overcrowded facilities it said. CBP has public health controls in place to minimize any possible health risks.

I'm not a right winger however I am concerned with the health of these children. It seems many are housed in overcrowded facilities and an illness like TB could spread rapidly. Providing good healthcare screening and treatment for these kids should be a top priority.
Of course this is expensive but hopefully both Democrats and Republicans can work together to insure that these kids are not sick and heathy before we place them in homes in our nation or send them back where they came from.

(82,383 posts)It is more Ellis-Island-like and that can be looked for.
For years adults have been pouring over the borders without any such check on their health. So if disease were a big problem, we'd have the problem already.
