Probably because he'd just spammed GD with multiple duplicates of this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025160093 (There were five locked threads on the front page of GD with the exact same title and content.)

I forgot about that. To be clear, this has nothing to do with that. I forget who that was about. Who was it about?

And this sort of thing? Yeah, it's really not doing anything to dispel the general attitude of cliqueishness. Yes, it has everything to do with that, and that was a dick move. But hey, we can excuse behaviour in people we like that we'd condemn in people we dislike, right? (I invite you to imagine how you'd feel if one of the usual suspects had spammed the forum like that if, say...Seabeyond had just gotten a timeout.)

But, I understand that people outside the host forum might still be uncertain about how things developed. If I recall, there were two or three similar threads that were locked around the same time. One of the Admins had to step in to lock a thread which clearly was in the "Whining about DU" category; and the GD Hosts decided to lock the others to be fair and consistent.

I like Bill, but that thread that got locked was deserved. This thread is more of that Meta flavored instant soup so many here prefer to actual discussion. Redundant, divisive and explicitly outside the SOP of this forum. It is good form to 'appreciate' people in private in order to avoid misuse of the praise as a weapon against those not praised or as debt owed by the one being praised. Praise with strings is called 'bullshit'. Praise which is, even in part, actually something else is also called 'bullshit'.
