What pet is most worthy of appreciating?

I'll try not to let my personal opinion infect this poll.

It was important enough to include in a SOTU

Are they here living among us?

They are whole beings. Only small minds (like GWB's) would ever refer to them seriously as "hybrids"

And yes, they are living among us, in us, watching us.

she is a rescue - her owners dropped her off at a no kill shelter as vicious, so she was never properly socialized. took her months to trust me to hold her, and now she is into giving hugs, - resting her head on your chest and throwing her arms around you while you are sitting in the computer chair. years in the shelter as no adoptable, I couldn't leave her there, I lied about a fenced in yard and she is a special loving reward I lied when i said I would crate her when I had company. in her way she has grown into mass of love. My only problem now is that she does not think anyone will hurt her, she just runs up to everyone expecting to be loved.

scratch the intelligence part - She is a hunting dog with great sense of smell can climb trees (but I keep her a little over weight so she can't do that anymore) and is a killing machine,if let loose and the mind of a sieve. In one ear, out the other.

Looks are deceiving.

Beautiful, hates cats and squirrels and would kill them with no problem, but dumb as a box of rocks. MY husband says he has tumbleweeds in his head and nothing else.

considering that I've had one of all of them at one time or another - well, except guinea pigs, but I babysat one for a week and thought it was extremely cute when it bleated for vegetables when I sliced them up for it

Oops, didn't notice pigs were an option. Haven't had one of those. A goat would rock, though

no poop to clean up.

Rocks come naturally "fixed" no unwanted little rockies coming along from promiscuous behavior, if you do want more just smack it with a hammer or pick up another one. There are plenty of homeless rocks out there looking for a compassionate soul to adopt them.

You can use a rock as weapon in case of an emergency.

You can leave them in a rolled up car on the hottest day of summer and they don't give a damn, it's literally no sweat off their backs.

If you roll them, they gather no moss because they're too busy rocking and rolling.

Just by sheer definition, they rock!

And who does your mama love you like? Not a puppy, nor kitten, gerbil, bird or fish, she loves you like rock!

Thanks for the thread, el_bryanto.

They were cutting grass around my condo when a one of their riding mowers slung Herbert against my back sliding glass doors and cracked it in a 1000 places.

I was going to replace the door regardless because it was fogged up, but the landscaping company paid to replace my doors with a nice pair of energy efficient double pane sliding glass doors, Herbert and I have been best friends ever since.

To be human, though, requires a constant balance between pack behavior and independence.

Cats do most of those others, plus constantly model, er...independence.

Dogs and cats get all the attention around here. Except for that little one eating a mini-taco, no one ever thinks about hamsters. And guinea pigs get even less mention!

Hamsters are cute and funny and friendly!
