Man who shot fellow movie-goer gets bail. Curtis Reeves will be released tonight.

His lawyer was just on TV making it sound like he was acting in self-defense....a stand your ground defense seems to be building.

Judge sets $150,000 bail for Curtis Reeves, suspect in movie theater shooting

Circuit Judge Pat Siracusa set a $150,000 bail for Reeves in an order released Friday afternoon. The judge ruled that Reeves, 71, must remain at home except to go to church, the doctor's office or the grocery store. He also must surrender firearms, wear an ankle monitor and avoid contact with the dead man's wife, Nicole Oulson.

The order came hours after an appellate court kicked the decision to set bail for Reeves back to the trial judge.

The 2nd District Court of Appeal told Siracusa in an opinion issued Friday morning that he may set bail, though it stopped short of directing him to release Reeves. Siracusa in February ordered that Reeves be held without bail in the Pasco County jail until his trial.

In Siracusa's latest order, he affirms the appellate court's statement that Reeves' attorneys "presented exceptionally strong evidence in support for pretrial release." He wrote that he issued the first order denying bail on the presumption that he had no discretion to set one if prosecutors met their burden that "proof of guilt is evident or the presumption is great."

We hear that Chad Oulson was throwing either a phone or popcorn. Neither warrants being shot to death.

Since at one time he was in law enforcement. Can't believe they let him out.

He's a fucking murderer. He knows it and his wife knows it - she basically admitted it at the scene before he yelled at her to shut her mouth.

But...

The video shows the victim throwing something which appears to be a cell phone.

That and his former police captain status will give him a pass with a Floriduh jury - I give him about 90% chance of walking.

Unless it's one of those big boxy ones from the 80's. It looks like either a bag of popcorn or cup of soda.

Which, that's their job, of course. I think you're right about the acquittal, unfortunately.

The victim was texting, not talking, with their babysitter during the previews. Ex-cop confronted victim and allegedly pushed him. Victim threw popcorn at ex-cop. Ex-cop pulled out gun and shot victim. Plenty of witnesses. Interestingly, the ex-cop had been on his phone in theatre just a couple minutes earlier. I kind of think the ex-cop might have early dementia or senility. Not legally insane though. He might skip bail. Don't lose hope, because in several similar cases the SYG defense hasn't held up.

He's probably fairly confident in his former cop status and the SYG hardon to get him out of it.

If he skips bail, he might still walk on the murder charge, but would probably do some time for skipping bail.

That the shooting stirred up dust on the camera lens? That doesn't make much sense to me. The camera didn't seem that close to the two men.
