COEUR DALENE, Idaho An officer fatally shooting a black lab has resulted in the Coeur dAlene Police Department receiving threatening calls and emails.
On Thursday, authorities said they would not release the name of the officer who claimed he shot a vicious pit bull during a call on Wednesday. Coeur dAlene PD leaders said they have received voicemails and emails threatening the officer.
Leaders claimed the officer was distraught following the deadly shooting which has made headlines from Los Angeles to London.
Coeur dAlene Police Chief Ron Clark said the shooting would be investigated and reviewed for policy and legal compliance.

(21,925 posts)So the dog stuck its head out of the "partially open" (according to the video) window and barked. You know how many times that's happened to me, startling me out of my shoes? I think dogs like to do that for fun, being silent and then suddenly acting territorial when you approach their master's car. Of course every year there are a few fatal dog attacks, but in my experience it's usually just display and loudness. I've never even been bitten by a dog. If I shot a dog in someone's car every time one startled me, i probably would have shot dozens. You back away. You don't shoot. What if that had been a kid with a cap gun lunging out the window ambushing the cop and yelling "bang bang"? So the officer is distraught? What about the dog's owner?
