Like I said, "defeating" suggests a contest. Beating suggests an altercation.

Some lived to tell about it, but many have not. That's what beating means.

In popular vernacular, the term "beat" is used in competition to mean "defeat" or "win." The usage is ubiquitous.

For instance, I beat someone to the finish. Or I beat my friend at cards.

I too feel as though making the term "beat" off limits in a political competition involving a woman is really a slight against female politicians.

Because she's a woman? An election is about wining and losing. You lose, you get beat.

Fact is, he could beat her. But he won't

There is nothing offensive about what Rubio said. There are about a million things he HAS said that are plenty offensive and absurd, this is not one of them.

If you wouldn't care if he said "I can beat Joe" then you shouldn't care if he says "I can beat Hilary." Except of course that he can't.

Really?

Are we doing this already?

Really....?

Edit: Second thought...

This is offensive to Clinton. Is she is a poor widdle defenseless lady who can't play by the same rules as the big boy politicians? Obvious common usage is common.

But Rubio, Romney, Perry, Paul? I so enjoy seeing them humiliate themselves on the national stage. I give in to my inner bully when they take the mic. I want to see them hurt more.
