Its why the long-time Republican incumbent, worried about women voters putting Lundergan Grimes over the top, has occasionally been reduced to making claims about his record on womens issues that arent quite in line with reality.
. . .
To hear the Minority Leader tell it, gender discrimination is effectively a thing of the past. After all, just look at those women CEOs (and dont look at the pervasive gap between men and women doing equal work).
That said, McConnells unexpected rhetoric does help explain a few things. This is a senator who voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, voted against the Violence Against Women Act, and voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act.
And apparently, now we know why McConnell apparently doesnt see the problems many women face, which may explain why hes fought so consistently against remedies to those problems.

(15,799 posts)Barriers have been "lowered", eh? Think about that, Mitch, the next time your car is stopped at a railroad crossing; it's only when that barrier is raised that you can proceed. As to other kinds of barriers -- the artificial ones that women confront daily -- even if lowered they're still obstacles that shouldn't exist in the first place. "Lowering" them means nothing. Complete removal, now that would mean everything.

(30,058 posts)But BC isn't. We are reminded when dumb GOP candidates makes dumb statements like Todd Akin. No, the war continues in red state legislatures where forced birth laws are put into place and women's ability to make their choices is hindered. McConnell is out of touch.
