According to his wife Jenny, King was "in very bad shape" and "could barely see anything" after suffering from two strokes in the past two months along with numerous cancer treatments.
"We've been having trouble with the door on this car since we bought it," King told ABC News, noting that he had been too weak to push it open at the time.
Because his wife had the car's keys, King was unable to turn the vehicle's air conditioning on as the temperature inside the car quickly soared to over 120 degrees.

When asked by WVLT about why he had decided to help the man in the car, Keith kept his answer short and sweet: "He was hot," said the young man. "He was locked in the car."

(58,298 posts)The man inside the car, Bob King, had been waiting for his wife to leave a benefit event at the church when he realized that he could not open the car's door.
The article doesn't really give any explanation as to your second question.

(108,959 posts)This should be a reminder to everyone that disabled and elderly people are at risk from being shut up in cars, just as small children are.

Bob King was about to go inside his church for an event, but he accidentally became locked inside his car. After having several strokes, he just didn't remember how to unlock the doors, and everyone else was already inside.

(108,959 posts)that young children and babies aren't the only ones at risk from this situation; that the elderly, stroke victims, and anyone else with a serious disability could be at risk.

(22,593 posts)That renews my faith in humanity. Thank goodness for empathetic little boys. And sweaty old men, now that I think about it.
Thank you Uncle Joe.
