What’s known as fact is that a Malaysian jumbo jet was en route to Malaysia from Amsterdam when it fell from the sky. It almost certainly had reached cruising altitude by the time it entered Ukrainian airspace, which is where the plane lost contact, according to Malaysian Airlines. For it to crash because of catastrophic mechanical failure at that altitude is almost unthinkable. It’s safe to say that something else caused it to crash.

Ukraine says that a Russian anti-aircraft missile downed the plane. It also claimed that a Ukrainian warplane was downed on Wednesday by a Russian jet fighter while flying in Ukrainian airspace.
