Rupert Murdoch: politicians and red tape are holding business back
Media mogul tells B20 meeting in Sydney that companies must be allowed to help shape public policy
Rupert Murdoch says business has a right to speak out on public policy matters, even on issues not directly related to their area of operation.
"Business is just as entitled to express its opinion as unions are," the News Corporation executive chairman told the B20 summit of business leaders in Sydney.
"The trouble, I find, is usually unions represent hundreds of thousands of voters whereas a business represents just one."

(21,552 posts)The climate for business has never been better in the USA than it is now. They rake in record profits while wages increase at a level that does not even keep up with inflation. Some don't even pay taxes. and thanks to citizens united they can use their access to money to completely mute the voice of the American voter.
But Murdoch wants more?????????????

(5,279 posts)Capitalism isn't a shackled thoroughbred yearning to run free. Confined by the bitter and envious, this innocent gentle creature just wants to hoist us all on its back and thunder into a glorious future.
Rather capitalism is manufactured monster capable of prodigious work, but also possessing a prodigious appetite. It has to be kept in chains because it will eat everything, every resource, every individual, every society. It is structured to absorb and concentrate. It cannot run unregulated because the ones who reap the most benefit from capitalism are addicted/infected by capitalism and mentally prone to absorb and concentrate. As capitalism gobbles resources it gains power, it uses that power to gobble resources. It must be restrained by an outside agency. We, as a society, can balance the rewards from capitalism versus the dangers from capitalism through regulation by the action arm of society, the government.
