MN GOP candidate: ‘Knocked up’ women don’t deserve dinner, dancing at their wedding

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/07/17/mn-gop-candidate-knocked-up-women-dont-deserve-dinner-dancing-at-their-wedding/
A Republican candidate for a seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives is being criticized for outrageous statements about mothers-to-be she posted on her right-wing blog.

Sheila Kihne hopes to unseat state Rep. Jenifer Loon (R-Eden Prairie), who she claims is insufficiently conservative to represent the district. “People want a choice,” Kihne told Minnesota Public Radio. “I was at a point where I felt like I couldn’t vote for (Loon).”

On a blog she discontinued in 2009, she wrote that President Barack Obama was leading the one-world-order communists and demanded that single mothers be denied formal wedding ceremonies.

“Don’t you think that if you’re having a baby — and you’re not married — that you should forego the shower?” she asked. “I also think that if you get married — and are knocked up — you should get married quietly. At a courthouse, at a private home.”

Kihne specifically said that there should be no dancing or dinner for prospective brides who are pregnant. She acknowledge that “I’m seen as very cold-hearted with this issue and it’s caused a couple of big arguments in my family,” but insisted on standing her ground against “the idiots in Hollywood who make it look ‘cool’ to tote a baby around sans daddy.”

In that same post, she complains that an unwed mother included a portable DVD-player on her Target registry, addressing a complaint about the “extravagant lives” of people who are below her station. On her Twitter account, she posts photographs — accompanied by outraged comments — of what she is watching on television:

Video and more at link.

Oh boy are the crazies coming out here in MN!

I am a lapsed Catholic. Don't know whether Pope Francis represents a real change or not. The LCMS kicked out my aunt for divorcing a man who beat her up. My mom used to say stuff like this Kilne women. I was thinking that is why some thought her Lutheran. She has changed alot since I was a teen, so I figure she was repeating what she was taught.

Right after 9/11, you might recall that there was a ecumenical prayer service at Yankee Stadium. On the dais were representatives of all faiths, including a Rabbi and an Iman. Also up there was a Missouri Synod pastor. Well, the LCMS very nearly defrocked the guy for having the audacity to pray with people of other faiths.

And the WELS thinks the LCMS is "too liberal" for their taste.

There is an LCMS church near where I used to live and the preacher divorced his wife and then several years later married a member of the congregation. (His first wife was bi-polar and refused to take her medication.)

She moved to another town and joined another LCMS church. The brain washing is strong. She is a biblical literalist and quite conservative herself. Yet while she lived in her home town it was the elca that welcomed her to fold and stood by her.

The new LCMS church that she joined had a very Catholic type Pedophile scandal, whereby a new preacher was moved in that sexually abused some of the children in the school. He had been moved from another congregation over sex abuse complaints. She quit going to church but still believes alot of that stuff. Pastors can get away with many things ordinary people can't get away with. A prison conviction was the only thing that stopped him.

My bet is Wels wasn't as conservative in the past. I think the education of many Lutherans at known fundy schools like Oral Roberts is a form of steeplejacking. The LCMS were taken over by fundamentalist in the late 60s. It was process very similar to what happened to the SBC in the 70s. They were on the road to unifying the elca up to that point.

They "counsel" this unwed mother to have the baby. And they're the ones who applaud her boss to deny her access to birth control in the first place. But when she follows her advice, gets pregnant and then gets married, she gets spit on by these hypocrites. And yes, no mention of the father's place in all of this. Just targeting the woman.

The List puts single men everywhere on notice: Get it together in 30 days or you're out. The concept is delightfully simple - when a man meets "the one", he will take 7 swift actions to secure her love forever: He'll make the first move He'll contact her in 24 to 48 hours to set up a first date He'll make the first date easy and fun He'll contact her within 24 hours of the first date to set up another date He'll talk to her every day and spend all his free time with her He'll demonstrate unconditional loyalty He'll talk about marrying her in concrete terms and he proposes - or lets her know that he's going to propose With The List, women can get the relationship they've always dreamed of - without playing hard to get, putting on an act, or - most important - wasting any more time.

I believe that the greatest social justice crime has been the killing of 57 million babies in America. As a society we should always defend the weakest among us and as a culture we should value every life. In Minnesota, I'd like to see 20-week abortion bans.

There are so many couples wanting children, we must do better.

get delaying a wedding until after the baby is born and then wearing white, but that is just me. I'm not about to go around and tell some bride and groom how they ought to manage their actual ceremony, especially if no one asks me.

I do have an opinion, and I understand that it is just my opinion. I don't think I should be the one establishing all the rules.

A DVD player on the Target registry is a very sensible request, also in my humble opinion.

and you were raised in an era when pregnant brides were expected to behave the way this candidate indicated. There was so much focus on the white=virginal back then. The wearing white thing was often a lie, but no matter. People could pretend that the woman was as pure as driven snow because it mattered to them. That facade was slipping even in the late '60s but I think it took until the '80s for that white/virgin thing to be ignored by most, save for those who were highly religious or highly 'traditional.'

As to delaying the wedding, I've known couples who delayed it until after the baby was born either for both practical (morning sickness, or other pregnancy discomforts) or emotional (by delaying it until after the child was born, the child would understand that they married because they wanted to, not because they HAD to.)

But more importantly, as you said, having opinions about white dresses and delayed weddings isn't the same as having the right to dictate how others should handle it.

I was a little concerned that others here would jump all over me. Sometimes I wish I could be Dictator of North America, and even though I actually feel somewhat strongly on this topic, I fully recognize that my opinion here is somewhat in a minority. In short, there are a lot more important things for me to worry about than whether a bride is pregnant at her wedding and such.
