BREAKING: US Intelligence confirm SAM strike on jetliner

CNN just reported that US Intelligence Assets in Ukraine have confirmed a radar targeted the aircraft and IR lockon occurred.

They are triangulating data to determine if the strike came from the Ukrainian side of the border or the Russian side of the border.

Regardless, it could not have come from any area controlled by the Ukrainian military.

EDIT: Now correcting and saying it is still physically possible to have come from Ukrainian controlled area.

The area controlled by the Ukrainian military is too far away on the opposite side of the crash site from where the SAM strike was launched.

Either the Separatists did it or the Russians did it. Still determining which one as this is so close to the border.

21. As I posted in the other thread, it COULD have come from areas held by Ukraine.

Everybody is hung up on the shorter range BUK SAM's, but Ukraine also has longer range S-200 SAM's with a range of over 150 miles. In 2001 the Ukrainian military accidentally shot down a Russian passenger jet over the Black Sea using the same missile system (allegedly, it was a poorly trained operator).

As I said in the other thread, I'm not stating that Ukraine DID shoot it down, but it's flat-out wrong to claim that they didn't have the capability to do so.
