Why is Chris Christie still considered a presidential candidate?

Chris Christie hasn't been charged or found guilty of anything (yet). But if he were a Democrat, in NJ or any other state, and surrounded by numerous, ongoing investigations, there would be howls for his resignation.

The "It's Okay If You're A Republican" meme seems truer than ever. Christie is still being treated, by the media and others, as a viable presidential candidate. I guess that as long as scandals don't have a sexual component, they're not damaging.

Nonetheless, I find it astounding that a loudmouthed, bullying control freak like Christie can be considered electable. Can anyone explain this to me?

making some noise about another run. He's about as "establishment" as it gets.

Looking at people like Christie, Romney, and those who fill up the Republican clown car, you come to realize that about half the people in this country are hopelessly dense.

On edit: If Romney does run, all the Dems have to do is play that 47% video over and over. There's no way he can ever escape that.

have no one to run. It's sad they can't see their extreme ideology forces out any voice that might be remotely acceptable to mainstream voters.

15. It was not just being gay. McGreevey had to resign because he gave his boyfriend a six figure job.

Yes, he was being blackmailed, of course, but that does not excuse it. While I'm sure some people would have found the 'gay' thing distasteful most New Jerseyans probably couldn't care less who he was sleeping with as long as he wasn't doing it on the taxpayers' dime. Had he insisted on staying in office, IMHO, he would have been impeached. Better to announce "I am a gay American" and resign.

Jersey Fats on the other hand has not been definitively linked--as in gave the orders--to the George Washington Bridge scandal. If the evidence does come out that he did order it then he is toast. If it doesn't, he can proclaim himself the victim of a Democratic and liberal witch hunt and gain some love from the base he would not otherwise get.

The Republicans are desperate for a candidate who seems like a can do guy who does not scare the bejeezus out of people who are not hard core conservatives. Christie seemed like that guy after Hurricane Sandy and I'm cynical enough to think that mucho GOP establishment money is changing hands to insure that nothing damning comes out about him. They are that desperate.
