Two teen girls film themselves torturing a tortoise. Police are considering criminal charges.

Two teenage girls from Florida could face criminal charges after they allegedly filmed themselves torturing an endangered tortoise to death.

The duo is being investigated after they uploaded the sickening footage online.

It begins with them lighting the threatened gopher tortoise on fire — before throwing it on the ground and crushing it underfoot.

"Burn baby, burn baby. Now you're scared of us, huh?" says one of the animal abusers.

As they cackle with laughter, the critter then dies from its horrific injuries.

---

Officers are now working with the State Attorney's Office to determine what charges will be filed, and whether the pair will be considered as juveniles or adults.

The girls (or at least one) uploaded it on their facebook page.
That presumably means it was under her name
Should the authorities be allowed to release their names
If she stood on the street and yelled "My name is _____. I killed a turtle." Why keep her name anonymous.
This is pretty much what she did by posting it on her account

It's complicated by the crime
They are exploring whether this is better handled at the state or federal level since the turtle is a threatened species
If they decide it's also a federal issue, they might turn it over to the feds
Some cases are easier for the feds to win than the state

Kids are being raised everyday in ways that teach them that something like this is something to brag about.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.

And still some people want to force others against their will to become parents. Sheesh, we ought to learn how to raise the kids that are already being born before we force more of them into the world.

of time IMO until they repeat this behavior or similar on other animals and/or humans. ... setting fire to the homeless, for example, comes to mind as other sickos have done.

Also, IMO, they should be considered as adults. Maybe in generations past there was a distinction, too often crimes by youth are so hideous IMO they should be treated as adults. I know about brain development, etc., but WTF, eventually the acknowledgment has to be accepted that some crimes are so hideous there is no distinction between juveniles or adults IMO.

Yes, charges should be filed. Yes, the girls should be treated as adults. The fact that they knew what they were doing and were laughing about it takes it out of the category of "juvenile prank." They knew they were killing this creature.

The message needs to be sent that torture of any kind is WRONG. Especially against the defenseless.

I'm upset, sad, and troubled by their actions. I'm a gentle souled animal lover. It'd be true to say I love my dogs more than people.

Cause to me, your plan here is much worse than what these girls did (which is a terribly cruel act). Do you really want to torture and maybe kill two girls??

Because from what I read here, your wanting to torture and maybe kill these girls makes you a serial killer to be. With no chance to be anything other than a twisted serial killing rapist.

Know what I mean??
