Mom’s boyfriend said to be kidnapper in Kansas abduction, shootout that ended with 5-year-old girl's

A Kansas woman's desperate boyfriend snatched her 5-year-old daughter and led police on a two-state chase that ended in a shootout that killed the little girl, the man's family members said.

Authorities in northeast Kansas on Monday were still sorting out the events that led to Cadence Harris' death after the Leavenworth girl was allegedly abducted Friday night and then fatally wounded amid a gun battle between her kidnapper and police.

Family members told local KCTV television that Marcus McGowan, 30, was the man who took her.

He was wounded in the shootout at a construction site in Leavenworth and taken to a Kansas City hospital. His injuries weren't life-threatening.
