By Colby Itkowitz July 22 at 4:24 PM
There were only a few ways Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) could react to HBOs True Blood portrayal of Texas Republicans being murdered at a fictitious Cruz fundraiser.
He could have ignored it, or laughed it off. But he went political.
A scene in Sundays episode took place at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, where a Cruz function was being held. The vampires who went made disparaging comments about the Republicans in attendance (What do you expect? Its Hollywood.) and then there was a vicious bloodbath. (We admittedly do not watch True Blood, so we cant offer further context, but we know its a show about vampires and can be quite grisly.)

Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBOs True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a Ted Cruz fundraiser.
Well, Im sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends .

Them grapes sound sour, Ted.

(12,287 posts)I always sensed that the writers were using real time republican bigotry as there role models...this episode confirms my suspicions...I was thrilled!

(10,128 posts)I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Yellow Dog Democrat, and think a constitutional amendment banning all descendents of Prescott Bush from Federal office is a good idea, but I though setting the action at a Ted Cruz rally (at the George W. Bush Library, no less) was a cheap shot and indicative of a lack of ideas on the part of the show's writers. (I did like Pam's dress, though. The crack about Republicunts, not so much.)

I think it was a tribute to more than one film set during the ACW.

And make no mistake, Cruz has the vampire vote locked up in Texas---nobody sucks like he does.......

The real problem is that Cruz has been depending on the bloodsucker vote and is terribly disappointed to find out that even the undead are not impressed by a politician who has no heart.
I might add that the expression that Pam uses to describe herself in high-priced GOP drag is not new, but it was the first time that I heard it. However, a little googling shows it was in use even before Obama was elected. Anyway, it's a term I'll use from now on to characterize the allegedly female spokesmen for the Party of Hell No, people like Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer, etc.
