Jealous wags: Dogs show envy is 'primordial' emotion

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-28446512

These border collies inspired the study on jealousy in dogs

Jealousy is not just a human condition according to researchers, as it appears to be hard wired into the brains of dogs as well.

Scientists in California found that canines succumbed to the green eyed monster when their owners showed affection to a stuffed dog in tests.

Some experts have argued that jealousy requires complex cognition and is unique to people.

But the authors say their work shows it may also come in a more basic form.

I agree too. Just try to give them different sized treats and see what happens. I swear they are like children, sometimes!

If my partner or I are loving on one of the two youngest, the other will immediately insert herself into the equation. If we each have a dog, and one of us is seemingly more affectionate, the pup will run to the other person. If I can't get Marigny inside, I just go in the house and loudly say, "OOOO...I love "da baby! (Zatanna, the other youngster)" and she will come running. Of course, the jealousy also applies to humans. A few times, as I was kissing my partner, BOTH of the younger dogs jumped up on us and stuck their tongues in our face! Bleech!

I could get him to come back to me was to pet another dog. He would suddenly turn around and come up between me and the other dog and use his snout to separate me from the other dog. It was kind of cute and funny, but it was how I got him back on the leash.

I would love more than anything to have a dog. Unfortunately, I live in a place that does not allow them and I am not in a financial position to move. I also would want to have enough money to send my dog to doggie day care while I was at work since I think it is cruel to leave a dog home alone all day.
