Once Ronald Reagan pioneered a path to politics for actors, and once Dan Quayle made it clear that being vapid and dumb as a stick was no impediment to being next in line to the presidency, we were all set for George W. Bush, a guy who would have been known as George the Dipshit if we were still back in the days when people gave names to their rulers like Richard the Lion-Hearted, or Louis the Do-Nothing, Wilfred the Hairy, and Henry the Impotent.

But dumb as he was, George W. Bush wasn’t the crest of the wave of dipshittery that has swept over this country throughout this century thus far. If the ‘60s were the so-called Age of Aquarius, and the 1920s were described as “roaring,” this whole century thus far has largely been characterized by Stupefying Stupidity that has given us the Tea Party, along with a raft of politicians and commentators who have begun to make Dubya seem like he might have been an intellectual.

In Texas, for instance, where dipshits tend to be found in rather large numbers, George W. Bush was followed into the governor’s office by Rick Perry, a guy who wouldn’t be hired to drive a forklift by anyone who thought good judgment and intelligence might come in handy once in awhile. But Texans decided that first Dubya and then Ridiculous Rick were just the kind of guys who ought to be in charge down there. Those are just the top dog slots. Under that level, the dipshits may be even dumber, if such a thing is possible. And it is, apparently, at least down there in Texas. As the saying goes, “there’s stupid, and then there’s Texas politician stupid.” With people like Louie Gohmert, Kyle Kacal, Steve Stockman, and a whole bunch of lesser known yahoos in the state legislature there, guys (and a few non-guys) who are committed to stupidity in all they do—denying science, pushing legislation that would have children taught that the world is 6000 years old, and supporting guns for fetuses to protect them from pregnant women who might be considering abortion (ok, I made that last one up, but it wasn’t much of a stretch). As General Phil Sheridan said a way long time ago, “If I owned hell and Texas, I’d rent out Texas and live in hell.”

But Texas is heaven for dipshits, and so are lots of other places in this country that are heavenly havens for dipshits. In fact, when it comes to boneheaded stupidity, anti-intellectualism, slack-jawed Fox “News” zombies, and Tea Party anarchists, the whole country is beginning to look like dipshit heaven. We’ve got more than a few such places right here in rural California and throughout the north state, little enclaves of ignorance that provide prime habitat for dipshits.

4. Here in Florida, we're doing our best to keep up with the stupid and uneducated.

Our Governor is a shyster and a crook who gets his mother to blast her unbiased thoughts on political ads.
If I hear her say "He's such a good boy" one more time, I'll puke...but 1/2 of the nitwits here think that her words came from some Holy place.

5. Lived in Houston

during the Nixon years. The stupidity spewing from the mouths of Republicans was thick enough to be cut with a knife. I was extremely happy when I finished university and left the state, never to return.
