Walmart's Ice Cream Sandwiches Don't Melt In The Sun

I watched the original broadcast by WCPO Cincinnati and the anchor kept saying even though these sandwiches don't melt, there's nothing wrong with them.

There's nothing wrong with ice cream that doesn't melt.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Last we checked, ice cream is supposed to melt if it isn't kept chilled.

But Walmart's store-brand ice cream sandwiches don't even melt in the sun, according to a report from WCPO Cincinnati.

The discovery was made by a local mom, Christie Watson, who noticed that a Great Value ice cream sandwich her son left out on their patio table hadn't fully melted -- even though it had been sitting out for 12 hours on an 80-degree day. Watson left a second ice cream sandwich out overnight with the same results, WCPO reports.

"What am I feeding to my children?" she asked, appalled.

Decades ago I stopped eating a lot of different brands of ice cream. Before I ever set foot in a Walmart.

Stuff melts out of the ice cream, but the carageenan or guar gum or whatever else is in it keeps the rough shape of the chunk of "ice cream product." What's left is sort of foamy and floats on the disgustly thin liquid.

They've probably managed to make it keep its shape better now and have even thinner, less substantive liquid.

I'm not an ice cream person myself, but people should be aware of what they're eating.

that if you want to know what you're feeding your children, read the ingredient list.

I learned that most "ice cream" sold in groceries is filled with chemicals years ago. The pure stuff is out there. Just takes reading skills. Not difficult.

Heck, a short cut is even to look and see if there are more than three ingredients...most likely you're looking at chemicals at that point.

If a person wants to know what is in their food (and not have it "foisted" on them), then they should read the ingredients. Do you not read the ingredients? How is that in any way a bad idea???

If you want to trust the big companies to feed you good and nutritious food...well good luck with that.

Peeps will argue with anything on here...goodness gracious.

Sadly, this also includes when my children leave the freezer door open just enough for stuff to melt but not so much that we notice when walking by.

when we were in Moscow in the 90's and we were taking the kids to the circus (I won't go on but OM freaking G) they were selling ice cream in little cups outside, in the heat from a cart that was no where near being chilled. It was all just one big green scoop of ice cream. They were all sitting there, perfect in the heat. I did not partake so I can't say what it was like but damn.

even though this is repeated throughout the article. "Frozen" means cold, there is no way after 12 hours at 80 degrees the internal temperature was freezing cold. It is most likely either more like frozen whipped topping or pudding, neither would necessarily completely lose their form from thawing.

Sometime pick up 2 half gallons of ice cream, a cheap one and a premium. The premium almost always weighs more, cheap ones tend to whip massive amounts of air into their product.

This is impossible. No one has seen a half-gallon of ice cream in years. At best you'll get 1.75 quarts.
