Kerry ‘completely capitulated’ to Hamas in ceasefire proposal, say Israeli sources

The unnamed sources, quoted by Israel’s Channel 2 TV, said Kerry “dug a tunnel under the Egyptian ceasefire proposal” — which Israel accepted and Hamas rejected last week — and presented the Israeli government with a text that accepted “most of the demands” raised by Hamas, the Islamist terror group that rules the Strip.

To the “horror” of the Israeli ministers, the Kerry proposal accepted Hamas’s demands for the opening of border crossings into Gaza — where Israel and Egypt fear the import of weaponry; the construction of a seaport; and the creation of a post-conflict funding channel for Hamas from Qatar and other countries, according to the sources. The proposal, meanwhile, did not even provide for Israel to continue demolishing the Hamas network of “terror tunnels” dug under the Israeli border.

Rather than provoke an open diplomatic confrontation with the United States, the report said, the appalled ministers chose not to issue an official statement rejecting the Kerry terms. Instead, word of the decision was allowed to leak out.

The cabinet was meeting again on Saturday night to discuss all aspects of the 19-day conflict with Hamas. Ongoing efforts were being made to reformulate the ceasefire terms, Israeli sources said.

To sit down and work out an agreement and wanted another country in to help them along then Kerry or no others would have to do this. Israel wants to tell the US what to while having their hand held out for more foreign aid. This conflict has been going on for years, it seems to be their life blood, now they need to stop asking for help unless they are sincere in accepting the help we give.

Completely capitulating means putting forth ceasefire language that allows Israel to continue its search on the ground for tunnels while the Palestinians hold their fire?

Because that's what the agreement was, Israel was allowed to continue its operations in searching for tunnels unimpeded, no wonder Hamas refused to extend it any longer.

Unbelievable how Israel could be so upset about an agreement that sought to give them ability to search for tunnels during a ceasefire.

While being fairly evenly split on Israel. Hamas is rightfully distrusted and reviled - he will not hand them a victory.

It is not complicated. America is ambivalent about Israel. Not so with Hamas. The tightrope Kerry is walking is to stop the fighting without giving Hamas an opportunity to rearm. It has every thing to do with Hamas - they are the ones that started shooting rockets.

Gaza, inasmuch as he knows Hamas did not commit the kidnapping and he knows Hamas has recognized the 1967 borders and embraced the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative. It's too bad the US corporate media doesn't have his back on this one because if the American people knew what was really happening, a large majority would not support Israel's slaughter of innocents. ABC Evening News Friday couldn't even bear to report that Israel had rejected Kerry's proposal. They had no trouble earlier in reporting Hamas' rejection of Egypt's keep the siege ceasefire. Let's hope Kerry keeps working to do the right thing on this.

The proposed cease-fire plan also takes into account the presence of the Israeli military inside Gaza and does not call for a full Israeli withdrawal. Instead, it would allow for some units to remain during the cease-fire period to continue locating and destroying tunnels into Israel.
