A message from Save Market Basket

OMG! Thank You So Much!

One HUGE thank you goes out tonight from WAMB to all of our beloved customers. You, our devoted and loyal customers, have taken this fight over for us. The stores throughout our company were empty of customers today and many of you came out and supported our volunteer associate army on the protest lines. We cannot express to you all how great it feels to be able to fight this battle with you behind us. This is a fight that we did not want but we were forced into by an unresponsive Board and uncaring and untrustworthy co-CEOs.

On Monday we let you know it would help our cause to boycott our stores, as difficult as that was to say, and you responded. At yesterday's rally we asked you to carry on the fight with us and you responded in a huge way. For this, we are eternally grateful to each and every one of you. We ask you to continue this fight with us until ATD is back in charge of our company. We have always known, unlike some companies, that our customers are the biggest asset we have, the reason we go to work and work hard every day. What we didn't count on was you being our biggest weapon in our fight against corporate greed!

We have never been prouder to be associates of Market Basket and we have never been prouder of the customers we service every day with a smile. We are well aware that shopping at our competitors is a burden on you and our answer to that is, the more you boycott the quicker we can get back to servicing you. Please know that despite our co-CEO's offer for amnesty, none of us will be returning to work until ATD is back in the driver's seat and that includes if someone else buys the majority share of the company. We will NOT work for anyone but ATD and our customers have voted the same with their feet!

Stay Strong and Stay United

my first job was bagger at the local A&P. Years later, I worked at sewervalu (Supervalu) and can relate to these employees. Behind the scenes though, there I a lot in-family infighting.

this all for years and is doing some orchestration.

But I DON'T CARE if he is - I LOVE that the working stiff's are angry, empowered, and active, I LOVE that our fellow Bay Staters are highly supportive, and I LOVE that our elected officials are stepping up and speaking out.

Bravo, Massachusetts!

And brava, Gray Warrior, for keeping DU up to speed on this wonderful earthquake!

In Newburyport, MA there are two supermarkets in the same mall. MB and Shaws. MB's parking lot is always filled to capacity. Shaws is not. I've gone into Shaws several times to get something quick to eat and it's always nearly empty because their products costs so much. If MB goes out for any reason, there will be a lot of families that won't be able to afford to eat.

It blows my mind that in this prosperous state, in this prosperous country, there are so many who live on the edge. It's criminal. If not a crime against criminal law, it's a crime against decency.

Many of them are afraid if MB goes out or if Artie T doesn't take it back. I have hardly anything in the house to eat because I hate the thought of shopping somewhere else.

Hannaford,to be specific, and I am in awe of these employees and the courage they're showing. I have a good friend who left us to work in their only store in Maine, which only opened a year ago. She got a $1,000+ bonus at Christmas, which was a big help and I gather is one of the things Arthur T. implemented which the other side doesn't approve of. I hope they are successful and am solidly behind them. It's wonderful to see such solidarity!

They really got pissed when he implemented the recent 4% off your entire purchase. I think that pushed them over the edge.

How does Hannaford treat employees? I sometimes shop at the Hannaford in Waltham.

Hannaford started as a Maine company, but is now owned by Delhaize,a Belgian corporation. Morale has gone down significantly due to their introduction of computerized scheduling. Most positions are part time now. Some decisions Delhaize has made regarding Hannaford have been to help their struggling Food Lion banner down south. Hannaford is their most profitable banner company. I've worked there for seven years as night deli supervisor, and I get three weeks vacation which I stretch to six weeks by saving my floating holidays..which is the primary reason I stay there. I live for those three two-week breaks The pay for my position is not bad for this area. I can safely say that probably 90% of our employees don't know the name of our CEO,so if he gets fired he's on his own. To sum up...it's a job,and it pays for cat food and a cozy little place for my cat to live

AKA Brockton Public Market and that started the downward slide for them. Now Shaw's is unrecognizable when I go home.

Hannaford is still a decent market. I have friends who worked for Hannaford's in the Ptld area. The general sentiment is it's not a bad place to work.

It's not a bad place to work. Our management on the store level is fine and supportive within corporate limitations. I work with some great people, and most of our regular customers are a pleasure to deal with. Right now it is a bit challenging as my store(Saco)is the go-to store for Old Orchard Beach in the summer. Last week we broke our previous record for sales, and I'm sure some of the increase was due to the MB situation. Hannaford has had to send some employees from Maine stores to NH to handle the increase in business this past week. I'm sure it's no surprise that Market Basket is a big topic of conversation lately, and I don't know of a single Hannaford employee that doesn't support and admire the MB workers.
