"No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up." Lily Tomlin

I hear ya, Lily, I hear ya!

As a liberal, I try to be optimistic, after all, conservatives are pissed off enough for all of us, but it's a struggle these days. My hope is there are many out there like me and THIS year they will actually vote!

are the tens of millions of drastically stupid people, i.e. the entire republican party and teaparty.

Not a brain cell among them, at least not an active one.

And their insistence on destroying America so they can blame Obama...

And that we are still talking about what they are doing, and we are not doing anything about it.

I am not sure what we can do, but nothing seems counterproductive.

I believe if women - all the women who can vote - voted a straight Democrat ticket, Government & life would change dramatically for the better within 6 years.
Yep, about 3 election cycles would do it.But how to get them to the polls?

Even in the last Vieginia Gov race, with as stark a choice as can be, there were still lots of women voting for the nutcase R. Fetus Worship and hussy hatred seem to be the big factors.

The problem as I see it, some women seem to want to have their rights curtailed. Or at least they want to see other women's rights curtailed, which is probably closer to the truth.

I think it is foolish to think that, just because Repubs want to take women's rights away, that this automatically means all women will vote against that.

According to her Wikipedia bio: "In 2013, Lily Tomlin and wife Jane Wagner worked together on the film An Apology to Elephants, which Jane wrote and Lily narrated."

Speaking of Jane Wagner, she's credited as the sole author of The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, from which the quotation in the OP is taken. It was a one-woman show performed by Lily Tomlin. I suppose it's understandable that it would be associated with Tomlin, who's so much better known, but I've always assumed that Wagner wrote the line

We have national figures, some elected semi-legally, who regularly say things that seem like they must be pulling our collective legs, but which they apparently want us to take seriously. Worse still, lots of people do.
