Stock Market Reacts as Dollar Tree Agrees to Buy Family Dollar.

Both stocks were up today on the news - Dollar Tree by about 3% and Family Dollar by about 25% as of the time of this message.

The deal involves nearly eight-and-a-half billion dollars, in singles.

They don't yet have a name for the company, but are considering “Extended Family Dollar.”

They have already agreed on a slogan: “Twice as much crap”!”

This story is the type of thing they make jokes about in the opening monologue. Let's see what they come up with.

A Family Dollar recently opened nearby. I was hoping they would have something that the others stores didn't have, or maybe the same things at a lower price, but they didn't.

The head of the store did, however, give a great performance on Undercover Boss.

Nightly Business Report had a story about the whole "dollar store" industry, but I missed it.

I take it as a sign that Americans are increasingly forced to shop for crap because they are already stretched to breaking buying food, housing, fuel, etc.

Sad.
