Orlando Sentinel asks judge to unseal officer's indictment

I'm just going on the record saying that whenever a government official/employee or agency is involved in a case that includes a confidentiality order or a gag order, people have the right to view it as a cover-up.

The Orlando Sentinel has filed a motion requesting that a judge unseal the indictment of an Orlando police officer charged last week in a February shooting at a downtown apartment complex's parking garage.

Orange-Osceola Chief Judge Belvin Perry verbally ordered the indictment sealed at the time it was filed. State Attorney Jeff Ashton said he thought it would be made public after the officer's arrest.

But Ashton backtracked Tuesday, saying he and the judge recalled the circumstances of the indictment's sealing differently.

In its new motion, the Sentinel argues that because Johnston has already been arrested, "no criminal investigative purpose is served by keeping the indictment sealed, so continued closure is unconstitutional.
