It wasn't a "Don't tread on me" bumper sticker, although I thought it was.

Working in Roanoke, VA today, I was confused at the "mixed messages" of the bumper stickers on the car in front of me. The one that read "I love my Obamacare" was underneath the all too familiar "Don't Tread On Me" bumper sticker...or was it? Nope, the top bumper sticker read, "Don't Tread on My Obamacare!"

It gave me a big smile today!

NOH8 ME

(There is no simple  smilie, I almost chose by mistake as the thing looking most like a heart).

A heart is an allowable symbol on a CA licence plate.

"NAAWP" next to a confederate flag. I gave them the stink eye as I passed.

I used to have one on my car.

I have a Gadsden flag hat and an actual flag.

Now worthless.....

I'm glad there is push-back on the interpretation.

However, I think most people would assume the wrong thing if I were to wear the hat in public....

Good point, I was about to post that while it's now seen as a motto and a flag associated with conservatives, the message of "Don't tread on me" is a very progressive one. I think it is something we should fight to win back.

..as well as to use against those social conservatives whose "small-government" stance and "love" for freedom is a lie, for they'd be happy to use government to trample on the liberties of women, minorities, and members of the LGBT community.

It's already worked well in the past. Look at the civil war within the GOP. Among the combatants are libertarians, some of whom might have a very backward position and fiscal matters and would like to turn the country into a collection of privatized feudal states, but who have nevertheless done a good job exposing the hypocrisy of social conservatives and made it difficult for radical evangelicals to speak out against "freeom" (e.g. freedom to marry who you want, a woman's freedom over her body, etc)
