Ginsburg on retirement: ‘People know I’m here to stay’

http://news.yahoo.com/katie-couric-interviews-ruth-bader-ginsburg-185027624.html

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court’s oldest justice at 81, told Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric in an exclusive interview this week that she has no plans to retire.

“People know that I'm here to stay, and my answer is I will do this job as long as I can do it full steam,” the justice said. “When I feel myself slipping, when I can no longer think as sharply or write as quickly, that will be the time for me to leave the court.”

Liberals have urged the justice to step aside with plenty of time for President Barack Obama to find a liberal-leaning replacement for her. If Ginsburg were to retire after the 2016 election, a Republican president could potentially pick her replacement, shrinking the court’s liberal minority from four to three.

But Ginsburg, who’s undergone treatment for two bouts of cancer and two broken ribs since she was elevated to the bench, said she uses Justice Louis Brandeis as a personal model. He served until he was 82.

The fear is that if one of the occupants of the clown car drives it into the White House, those 5-4 votes will become 6-3.

or words to that effect. And she also said, at least until she was age 83.

I'm rooting for her to stay on posthumously.

I have a hard time seeing how President Obama would get a justice through given how rabid the Republicans are. Also you could probably count on a few of the bluedogs to vote against his nominee if a vacancy came up. There is no way it would clear the threshold of 60.

Because if a republican gets elected President in 2016 we are screwed. She's 81 years old recovering from cancer. She seems to be the one on the court with the most health problems.I'm not buying this shit that Obama can't get a Supreme Court nominee appointed. The Senate is a little more sane that the crazies in the house. The house doesn't vote on Judges

Yes, the Senate is quite a bit milder because there are less Tea Party members (it's also generally harder to get elected to the Senate). I believe we will have a D elected in 2016. Now feel free to bookmark this and come back and spank me if I'm wrong (I'll gladly take it if I have it coming).
